It was a sunny morning, and breakfast at Governor’s Café turned out to be a delightful choice. Known as one of Dunedin’s oldest breakfast spots, established in 1977, the café exudes a warm, welcoming atmosphere that complements its reputation . The menu is extensive, offering everything from toasted muesli and waffles to ciabatta-based dishes. I opted for the Big Brekkie—a generous serving of bacon, eggs, grilled tomatoes, and hash browns atop toasted ciabatta . For those preferring lighter fare, options like eggs with mushrooms are available. Service was friendly and efficient, and the coffee, made with locally roasted beans, was smooth and satisfying. The café maintains a clean environment with well-organized seating, enhancing the overall dining experience. Prices are reasonable, offering good value for the quality and portion sizes. Overall, Governor’s Café provided a pleasant breakfast experience, combining hearty meals, attentive service, and a cozy setting.

Went here to get the potato 'hash'. Wasn't a hash at all, was just a few bits of roast potatoes in a bowl, nothing resembling a hash. I paid the extra $2 to make it vegan, and it's disappointing to get a much smaller amount of egg substitute (tofu scramble) compared with getting the normal poached eggs. Also some of the tofu was still cold... The meal needed more substance, bread, more potatoes, anything. It was a very shallow bowl of food for $24 and I left hungry. I wouldn't purchase this again, and am REALLY disappointed to see an addition $1 for plant milks for coffees. In this economy just make them the same cost! We shouldn't be paying more?? I wouldn't go here for a vegan meal. Can't speak on behalf of the other food though!

Amazing little rustic vibe cafe. Family friendly. Even when really busy, staff super helpful and so friendly! Highly recommend the porridge 😋 my daughter had the chocolate pancakes (normal size) & they were HUGE and delicious. I had an oat flat white, and am very fussy with my coffee - I literally searched 'best coffee Dunedin', & Governor's Cafe was closest to us at the time. Google didn't let me down. Warm and cosy with ample rustic seating. Great menu options and cabinet food. The wall art is incredible! So fun! Thanks team.

Had two Big breakkies and a veggie grill. They both included mushrooms on their menu but did not arrive when served. The food portion was small for it's very pricey food. When I told them that they forgot they acted like we were the stingy ones wanting more mushrooms, even though they forgot. They took so long to make the mushrooms and while waiting another big breakkie past me and had looked much fuller and appetizing than ours. By the time, with barely any given thought, the cooked mushrooms came and it was only for one serving. Keeping in mind we ordered 2 breakkies and a vege grill which included mushrooms. Am disappointed with the treatment and care over here... I do not...
