Mexicali Fresh — Restaurant in Upper Harbour

Absolutely lovely service, lovely location, I have no complaints. Slam dunk for 5 stars across the board. But now for the fun part. Burrito was an 8/10 (at least by my standards). Excellent construction and ingredient choice (I got the bandito, so barbacoa beef) the salad's addition of cabbage is a great balance of flavor. The chipotle sauce works very well with the meat choices, adding a sweet and sour flavor that extends on your protein choice. Guac is amazing and I personally always recommend adding jalapeños. The reason it loses its 10/10 rating is the barbacoa seasoning and rice. The rice problem is simple, it's too coarse. The shear almost woodlike texture of the rice works well in small amounts to add texture variety into a dish. However it shares a similar style of texture to the barbacoa beef and the burrito, so it's simply unnecessary. It doesn't really take anything away from the dish, however it's disappointing knowing how much better a softer rice would have been. As for the barbacoa beef seasoning, it's impeccable. For the first part of the flavor. The first flavor of the barbacoa is smoky and delicious, and I will probably choose it again. However the beef's middle flavor and aftertaste are almost nonexistent. This isn't a problem for the dish. The sauces, salsa and salad are perfectly made to round of the flavor of the burrito, but if you do not choose your bites carefully you may just end up with a mouthful...

I am not a person to write reviews but I am appalled.

I hope Mexacali Fresh will take this feedback seriously and improve their food safety standards to prevent such incidents in the future. I urge potential customers to exercise caution and for the management to ensure stricter hygiene practices and fresh food.

I visited Mexacali Fresh on Friday and ordered x2 California Burritos. Unfortunately, we were served something other than chicken. I took two bites and realised the order was wrong. We started to drive back (10 min drive) I started feeling very ill in car ride back. I explained to the servers we have the wrong order and showed the burritos they told us that the meat is chicken. You can see from my photos below the meat is brown and red. My partner thought his was tuna (not realising I ordered chicken). The staff were extremely rude and did not offer any compensation. Upon my partner almost throwing up at the counter other people eating started to notice what was happening and we were refunded and hurried out the door. With two bites of the food I have ended up extreme food poisoning and so...

Used to be a regular here. Won't be any longer for a few reasons.

Firstly, BIRDS. There are birds in the store consistently, flying behind the counter, standing on the service benches and the corn chips are sitting in the open. This is so incredibly unhygienic and the staff are so used to it they just stand and watch.

Temperature in store is awful, the poor staff are sweating buckets. There is no temperature regulation at all, so doors are wide open to try and get some air, this is contributing to their issues with birds flying in and eating off the surfaces and behind the counter.

Unfortunately, they now have terrible service, staff standing with headphones and backs to customers for as long as possible. Rude and unengaging service. I suspect the heat also adds to their attitudes, who would want to be here for long periods of time.

This last visit the food was so bland and unflavored, really...
