Wen & Yen Bakery — Restaurant in Upper Harbour

My go to spot in Rosedale, I usually pop in for a coffee or a matcha, and my partner a chai latte. I love popping in on the off chance, that I'm in the area. The service is always so good and so friendly, no awkward silences!

....Wow honestly, I don't know how I stayed away from temptation so long. It's kind of overwhelming, trying to decide what to order; when everything in the cabinet looks this drool worthy. You can tell that everything is baked with passion and love!

From the donuts to the slices, the savoury pie warmer too! There's plenty of variety, if you want savoury or sweet, they've got all your options covered. If you're as indecisive as me however, you'll be umming your way through your order. But it's worth it!

Personal recommendation: Try the chai or the matcha with...

First time here to try it out and was not disappointed. Steak and Cheese pie was amazing. Tender, juicy steak pieces and the cheese added that extra flavour to it. The Cookies and Cream, Caramel Slice and Caramilk Tart were delicious. Not too sweet, not too bland. The fact that it’s also Gluten Free is an added bonus for those with intolerances or Coeliac. Favourite was definitely the Caramel Slice. Reminds me of a giant Toffee Pop. Glad to have made the trip from Hamilton and will do so again. (Sorry, no photos of the pie as I had already eaten it beforehand.)

Went in just a few minutes before closing. I had to cure my cravings and have a donut. Donuts on display looked dark brown, not the normal light brown colour which already made me wonder if this is going to be a disappointment. The first bite confirmed it, oily and had a thick bread texture, not light and fluffy. The filling was also a bit disappointing. My advice, if you have a bad batch, give it away to friends and the community as a “test” batch. The price of 7NZD is a lot for a disappointing donut.
