Now for a genuine review! Being lovers of a great curry and after reading the reviews we were excited to take the family here for dinner last Sunday as my birthday treat. I assume these reviews are from friends and family as our experience was far far from great! The service was disappointing, had to clear empty drinks ourselves, get up to order drinks, get up go get correct glasses to drink from and after all that all drinks were warm as there fridge wasn't working! As for the food I have never ever had such a bad curry! You know it's not good when even the colour just doesn't look right, the butter chicken was awful, the lamb Rogan Josh even worse, the meat was just pieces of pure fat and grissle, the tandoori chicken tasted of something entirely different, even the papadoms were burnt!! I would never recommend this place, it truly was a disappointing experience and to top it off is one of the most expensive Indian restaurants I've ever been too, complete and utter waste of money!! It's such a shame ,these so called reviews are...

This evening my fiance and I were wishing for a curry and we decided to go here to my surprise this was probably the worst curry I ever had in New Zealand starting with the chilli chicken as a starter which was $18 there is so much onions and capsicum in . We ordered a briyani and a Rogan josh with a cheesy garlic Naan I am not one to get up and leave food but I couldn't even eat the food as it was horrible the taste of it was just not good at all I paid the $75 for it as I am not in the mood to argue about food had a chat with manager on duty but instead of him being professional he goes and laughs with the chefs in the kitchen and tells me on my next visit he will give me 10% off I will never return. Just so you know how bad it was I couldn't even finish my garlic Naan!!! Please note i have tried phoning you like 4 times and your lines is busy as per your response on my review 4...

I brought 4 teenage boys with me to The Spice Rack, 2 of which had never tried Indian food and 1 that does not like Indian food. The two that had never tried it are now Indian food lovers and begged to come back 2 nights later! The staff at The Spice Rack allowed the one boy who does not like Indian to bring in a burger from Burger Fuel so that he could eat with us. The staff was so nice and accommodating. I have eaten Indian food all over the world as it is my favorite type of cusine. The Spice Rack was one of the best meals I have had at an Indian Restaurant. The food was perfectly spiced, and the Nan was the best I have ever had. The service was very quick. This is a great place to take your family. If you are new to Indian food, I highly recommend the mild Butter Chicken or the Tanduri Butter Chicken to start, with...

We are sharing our disappointment with the service we received during our visit tonight. We had originally placed an order for takeaway via phone, as we had travelled from over three hours away. However, when we arrived at The Spice Rack we decided to dine in, unaware that there was a price difference between takeaway and dine-in orders. Instead of handling this matter discreetly or explaining the policy politely, the owner abruptly stated — in front of other customers — that we couldn’t dine in due to the price difference. We found this approach to be unprofessional. We understand that policies may exist, but the way the situation was handled left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. We expected a higher standard of service and communication. We can always pay the difference if it was explained to us nicely.

The taste that's very close to our local food in India. So far we tried thier chicken pan fried rice, Indo Chinese chilly chicken and paneer Tikka. So good that it made us go back to our old days of tasty authentic Indian food. It's a very decently busy place and there is a good number of regular customers and heaps of take away orders. If you like Indian hot, ask for hot dishes. You will never regret. Now it's one of our go to places in Albany for dinner. It's best to book in for tables if it's during weekend and also let them know if you don't want to wait for food. They will give you amble time to talk and then serve food as that's the kiwi culture. Try it and enjoy it. thanks

Went last Sunday first time for Buffet breakfast. Food was good and fresh. Service reasonable as it was empty but would have still appreciated the staff to check in on dosas and puris. Considerably expensive $25 for the food options available. More like a south indian buffet. Other buffets elsewhere have a lot of variety for that price. 2 chutneys Dosa/idli/vada sambhar 1 potato vege 1 chole Rice 1 Dessert (was supposed to be kheer I believe but we didnt like it as it was runny) They dont do alacarte for lunch and that was disappointing but again it was our first time there.
