I've been in Auckland for almost two months and this is the one place I had turned myself into a regular. I've so many items from their menu and they never miss. I'm usually not someone who repeats their order but I've seen myself asking for their cold noodle soup three times in a row. That's just how good it is. It is vegetarian friendly, VERY HIGH IN PROTEIN and the BEST option to have in summer. To be honest, one night I had one too many sojus (Hallasan Zero, my new favourite) and I ended up ordering a side of steamed egg and extra kimchi. Both way too good to be true. The following week here I've gotten the fish cake soup, which is shown in the menu as a sharing plate but I had no issue at all finishing it myself, and let me tell you, it was delicious... Three weeks later, I was torn between the famous 떡볶이 or "spicy rice cakes" per their menu, and the spicy pork belly. I ended up deciding picking the pork belly, and let me tell you: it's been SO GOOD that it made me make the decision to leave this review. It was one of the best cuts of meat I have ever tried and I am a very proud Argentinian. I'll never in my life forget this dinner. Of course, I had to pair it with the Hallasan Zero Soju and the Korean beer (Cass) to mix and make the famous "Somek" which is the combination of soju and beer. 10/10 food 10/10 overall experience. Everyone is just so helpful, friendly and understanding!!!!! Ps: don't be shy to try their side dishes. Fried dumplings taste AMAZING, steamed egg goes for the win as well. Everything is just so good. A little bit of my story: I came to Auckland on a working holiday visa, and after months of not getting a job, I decided to stay for three months as a holiday and then return to Argentina. And this place is the only place I've returned to more than three times in that period of time. Just because they NEVER missed at what was being asked for. They have always delivered vehemently! Edit: I forgot to mention both times I've ordered their kimchi pancakes to dip into the leftover broth from the cold noodle soup and the fish cake soup. It was so good I asked for it the second time. They've also offered me fried kimchi for my first cold noodle soup there, which is how I got the inspiration to...
Read moreSEE EDITS BELOW Got their ginsen chicken soup and fried chicken - felt it was mediocre from our experience of several Korean restaurants. 3 instead of 5 side dishes we saw in other reviews. We came here due to the overwhelmingly positive reviews - feels inflated. Sorry - may not visit again.
EDIT: owner commented in response to this post that the spicy sauce was on the house but this was not mentioned in the restaurant when serving - questions the credibility of owners comment when they undermine patrons comment. Owner mentioned that I should check recent reviews regarding the number of side-dishes that they have gone from 5 to 3 - response: patrons can’t be expected to keep track of how many side-dishes are being served - patrons look at other reviews at a glance and build expectations. To add - the rice served was not Korean rice but probably Chinese or Thai rice. Despite all this, I still stand by my comment that the food was mediocre - it’s unfortunate that the owner, instead of talking about steps they would take to improve their offering decided to argue with patrons over supposedly “free” spicy sauce and expecting patrons to keep track of their side-dish count. I understand that reviews are important for restaurant owners and their business but as honest reviewers, it is equally important that patrons know what to expect. I hope that the owner does not take it upon themselves to squash/ degrade every negative comment that come their way and instead focus...
Read moreIt was the worst res presentation of a Korean BBQ! You guys should feel shame… and you guys even trying to delete this review from being seen by others!
They advertise as charcoal BBQ, but it’s actually a gas canister with a few sad bits of charcoal tossed in for decoration. When the canister bottle runs out, the heat from those few piece of charcoal is not gonna cook…
The grill is a flimsy disposable sheet that burns out in no time, with a doggy black membrane that I don’t know what it is, there could be toxic stuff released…. then they have the nerve to charge extra for a replacement. That’s not restaurant standard at all.
Service? Nonexistent. When the grill was burnt beyond use and the meat turned black, instead of replacing it they tried to force me to eat it or pay extra for “leftovers.” Seriously? dude, go find something else to do, you are not suitable for this business…
Meat was better than the service..
Summary: Not recommended at all! AVOID this one and spend your money elsewhere! There are many much better Korean BBQ...
