We went to Kuai Dian for dinner the other night as we felt like eating Chinese food. They specialise in Sichuan style food but have dishes from other Chinese cuisines too. Their focus is on ‘fast’ food and they have a large number of different options with over 70 to choose from.
We tried a bunch of different dishes. We had; the Crispy Duck Salad, Dan Dan Noodles, Crispy Chicken, Sweet Glutinous Rice Cake, Sichuan Chili Oil Dumplings and lastly the Sichuan Style Fish (Blue Cod) - new item that’s not shown on menu. We also each had a bubble tea.
We definitely over ordered but ate the rest as leftovers for lunch the next day. Everything was really delicious and I don’t think anything was a let down. Although I suggest you eat the Crispy Chicken fast as it goes a bit hard once it goes cold - taste was still good.
The highlights of our meal were definitely the Sichuan Style Fish (you can’t wrong with this one!), the duck salad (it was so refreshing and went nicely with the duck which was perfectly cooked with crispy skin) and the noodles. I would definitely eat everything we ordered again!
The quality of food is really good and well priced. The staff are also really kind and friendly. If you’re looking for somewhere to eat Chinese food in Newmarket (or Auckland in general) I highly...
Read moreThe restaurant is one of the many located on Khyber Pass close to Broadway. They serve a series of different types of Chinese food. They make their own dumplings, which you can watch from behind glass. We ordered a few items to share between us; The duck fried noodles, the duck fried rice, beef in stone bowl and dumplings in spicy soup. The dumplings were quite tasty and the soup had the numbness and flavour of Szechuan peppercorn. The flavour wasn't very strong but you could tell it was there. The other items were also quite tasty and quite full of meat. The beef was interesting since it looked like dolsot bibimbap but had the flavour of Chinese stirfried beef. The rice, if left long enough, because crispy and quite tasty. We also grabbed one of the fried dough sticks with peanut and chocolate for dessert and that was quite tasty. Their pearl milk tea was ok, sweet with a strong tea flavour. It was a nice place for a meal. They have quite interesting items as well as a special combo if you were wanting to try a variety of different things. They also have a rewards system by giving you a stamp with every $10 you spend and then you get discounts based on how many stamps you've collected. Quite a nice place for a...
Read moreFirst time ok, the second time after I paid and being sent to sit I got told they ran out of one item and asked me if i wanted a substitute, they offered me congee and took it from the free pot available to everybody, so it made no sense and it was totally unseasoned, unlikely the congee they bring in the pot if you order it as part of the menu. The third time i showed up at the counter and no one came to greet me despite people being in the kitchen and clearly seeing me there. Not even a smile or a hello. So i went to the digital screen to order and at that time a group of customers entered the place and showed up at the counter. They, instead, got served at the counter. So at the moment when i witnessed that i asked the person at the till why them and not me: he said to order at the screen and at that point I stormed out. Appalling. Also the customers were Asians so it felt racist towards me. I’ll never go...
