Boy & Bird — Restaurant in Waitematā

Went to this place using first table for the first time and would not recommend this place to anyone.

The staff made it very obvious they couldn’t be bothered with us and were irritated with having to explain how first table works.

They made a weird choice on the bill and charged seperate for the rum and coke.. it was advertised for $9 on the menu and then they charged $9 for the bourbon and then $3 extra for the coke..which is illegal to do…

And they didn’t show the math on who got discount through first table, none of us think we got our main and beverage as per the terms and conditions for first table for 50% off.

Also the woman working Saturday night 11th November needs training on customer service, she is rude and does not know her terms and conditions well at all, having a dig at customers when SHE is the one who didn’t explain things correctly in the first place is quite distasteful.

The man serving us that night also made some smart comments that were not needed, like my friend asking for another rose, and him saying “I know what rose you have it’s the only one on the bill” tone of him saying it was rude and not needed.

Overall food is alright but with how bad their customer service is KFC is...

I went in for lunch with a couple of friends as I used to love this place but it seems to have gone down hill. The food wasn’t fresh or tasty, it took at least 45 minutes for our order to come out and it really wasn’t worth the wait at all. I think it’s also important to note that there was no one else in the restaurant at that time and we didn’t have a large order (one starter, half chicken with truffle and Parmesan, and 3 sides) so there really wasn’t any excuse for the food to take that long. Things that were advertised on the menu were not present on the plate. The spiced cauliflower fritters were advertise as being served with curry labneh but it was just ordinary yoghurt, the “smoked” almonds that were meant to be on the sautéed green beans and broccoli were just regular almonds and the vegetables themselves were overcooked and mushy. The portions were also very small and low quality for the amount that we paid. I wouldn’t mind paying as much for smaller portions if the quality was actually decent but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I would not recommend going here and I definitely won’t be going back. Really...

I broke my golden rule NEVER GO TO AN EMPTY RESTAURANT

We tried to get into Prego for lunch which is one of our favorite places but it was full.

Next door was Boy & Bird it was empty with only one other table. We decided to give it a go. The manager said as we walked in our policy is not to serve coffee inside the restaurant only takeaway which we thought was strange. We wanted lunch so we sat down. We ordered fish and chips and chicken roll and half a chicken.

The food was terrible mean absolutely terrible. I took one bite and I sent it back to the kitchen. The manager came back saying it was totally fine.

The manager charged us $24 for the fish and chips meal.

We won't be back and I would encourage you to AVOID this place.
