Second time going to Dizengoff now. Had the Morrocan Chicken salad and was a bit disappointed. Menu said char-grilled vegetables however, I noticed that they were precooked. The capsicum was canned (I know because I have used that product in my workplace before), and the eggplant is a similar product, precooked and sold (to the cafe) in a plastic container in an oil marinate.
Both those vegetable products are store bought, and I was disappointed to see them in a $24 salad. I definitely would reccomend charing your own vegetables! As well as this, the chicken had been cooked in advance and was a bit dry (it is easy to overcook breast).
Overall the flavour was fine, but maybe could have been a bit more seasoned. Especially the chicken which was a bit bland.
Service was fairly normal, servers friendly and the atmosphere is typical for a Cafe in Ponsonby.
I cannot speak to the quality of other menu items as I have not tried them, but I definitely would recommend...
Read moreAs an avid brekkie lover, I knew we had to dine here as it was top rated in many blogs and reviews. Once we got here, it was clear that locals love Dizengoff! The entire cafe had a Melbourne feel to it, and every table was occupied with a range of customers from families to couples. We ordered at the front and had to search for a spot as many tables were still full. Once seated, we didn't receive any tap water as we requested, but it seemed that they were understaffed. The food itself was lovely, but nothing super extraordinary...it seems like we are still not used to the high prices of the kiwi lifestyle! The area is pretty high-income and everyone looks very fashionable, and the staff was nice enough. However, we didn't see what the huge fuss was about. Any other cafe would've been just as great, but yummy food and beautiful surrounds...
Read moreReally not impressed with the food off the menu. We got porridge with poached fruit and chicken cabonara linguine. The porridge was plain and the fruit was dry, served on the side with only a bit of milk. My friend was looking forward to some juicy poached fruit with syrup or something flavourful but said the dried apples and prunes were a disappointment - she didn’t even eat the fruit in the end. My linguine was alright but had a weird flavour that wasn’t outlined on the menu - the chicken had spices on it that didn’t really fit the flavour profile. It was served with some dry (again) French baguette which had no butter or anything provided and when I bit into it, it had that white look of stale or defrosted bread. The pasta wasn’t awful but definitely wasn’t delicious. Just a bit of a disappointing meal really so won’t...
