Had breakfast at Forte Greene today, and the pastries and coffee were delicious, but service was heckling. I am not a particularly adept coffee drinker, so do take my time to finish a coffee. Otherwise, I get palpitations. I was waiting for a friend to come by for lunch too, so had time to spare. Unfortunately, the staff, on behest of the owner, came out to "check in" on me 3 times in a relatively short amount of time. Asking me if I needed more coffee/food. Finally, I was told to vacate by 11.30 for lunch service.
I understand the need to keep traffic moving in a f&b establishment, but it was not as if I weren't a paying customer. The intention was to have lunch with a friend on top of the pastry and coffee I had gotten for breakfast (I was there at 10, and left at 11). On top of that, the establishment was not full – there were available tables for new customers.
It's not a pleasant experience to be rushed to leave a place as a paying customer, especially when it did not affect their business one way or another. Does service mean so little today? If the cafe was full, I would have left, or shared my table with other guests as it should be, so did not appreciate the harassment that made me feel like I was an unwanted lurker...

Bought my own reusable cup and was charged a set price by one of the girls, then manager comes in, scolds the girl in front of all the customers for charging the wrong price and asks her to increase the price as the cup wasn't 'small'. As the girl proceeds to change the price on the till the manager once again tells her off for not waiting for the machine to process the first transaction before cancelling it. Instead of speaking to me directly she avoids all eye contact and proceeds to make the coffee. Afterwards, she gives me the cup and tells me to close my own lid as she doesn't want to 'squish' the coffee. The cup wasn't even full... This is the first time I've been charged more for a reusable cup, the same cup when taken to other cafes usually gets a discount?
Not nearly as bothered about the coffee as I am about you treating your staff with such disrespect in front of customers. Felt absolutely toxic.
Do yourself a favour and try some other local cafes just down the road such as eightthirty, bestie or gusstop - where there is generally a better sense of community and...
Read moreRacist if you ask me. My partner and i travelled from south auckland to try the reuben sandwiches. We parked on the wrong side of k road and grabbed a donut to share as were on the way to the cafe. There was a couple in front of us that were given tables and menus straight away. When the waiter came to serve us he straight away asked if we wanted takeaway and we asked for a table. He gave our menus and let us find a seat. My partner had 2 bites of his donut left he was eating as we had sat down another woman (i think she owns the place), asked us to eat the rest of the donut outside because they're a bakery. She then turned away in the most impolite manner. We were just about to order food but then decided to leave. I understand bringing food into another establishment but it was barely half a donut and we sat down to order lunch. I wouldn't recommend if you're a...
