Whammy Bar/Double Whammy/Public Bar — Local services in Waitematā

Whammy Bar has been an absolute institution on K Road for as long as I can remember, and after frequenting it for over 15 years, I can confidently say it’s still just as great as ever. When it became Double Whammy Bar after Wine Cellar closed its doors, I wasn’t sure what to expect—but honestly, nothing has been lost. The vibe, the gigs, the staff, and the drinks list are all spot on. It’s a small venue with a big heart, and it continues to be one of the best places in Auckland for live music and a good night out....

Whammy Bar is an alright venue for local bands, but international acts seriously need to stop being booked at this venue. The lighting is terrible, any photographers absolute nightmare and that damn pillar smack in the centre of the floor obscuring ones view is not a memorable experience. The situation is even worse when the shows at this venue is sold out, or heaven forbid over sold (great for the promoter and band), but ZERO room to move and no visibility of the performing act, experienced worsened by the super...

I have been many times to Wine Cellar but this visit was to watch a play as part of Auckland Fringe. The drinks are a decent price. I had the Feijoa cider from Purangi Winery (which is near Cooks Beach on the Coromandel). I was super surprised to see it so had to have it!. The space for the play worked well visually but wow it was hot! When it's music you don't think much of it but better ventilation while sitting watching a play would be nice because of the heat from the lights. Good...
