So this place has gone up a star for me based on my most recent visit the past weekend. My friends and I enjoyed our meal and we would have the same order again. The highlights for me was the beef cheek (melt in your mouth), fried chicken, Asian greens and cauliflower (although they could have been a bit more tender). I tried two of the ins and really liked the The Perfect Good George Gin & Tonic and would order it over the Day Off Feijoa gin which was a bit of a question mark. Perhaps I need to try the rest of the gins on offer on my next visit ;o)
Great location. Featured below is the duck fat potatoes, The George & Cheese burger and a glass of The Stump Jump cabernet sauvignon. Only issue was that my potatoes were water logged but other than this the burger was good. They have an interesting take on garlic bread!
Had dinner here recently for my colleague's 40th and it was a lovely experience. Our table was well looked after and our food was mostly served at the same which was great. I had the Old School Alcoholic ginger beer for the first time and it was so good - I'd drink it by the bucket load if I could! I had the Good fish and chips for dinner and it was tasty but it would've been better if there was a panko crumb option. The hand cut chips were just how I like them and all that was missing was a fresh salad. The house-made tartare sauce had good flavour but consistency was a bit too runny. Not sure if the tomatoe sauce was also house-made as well but it tasted good and had the perfect consistency. Looking forward to trying the rest...
Read morePretty disappointing experience all round. Luke warm food, missing orders, “Vegetarian dairy free” burger option on menu isn’t actually dairy free by default…no room for the number of people we had booked and confirmed for.
We’d booked for a group in advance and had confirmed on several occasions via phone and email regarding the number of people, time and date. When we arrived, the staff on the day were not made aware of our group number by whomever took and confirmed the booking originally, and whoever emailed us thereafter to confirm the number again - so they had only prepared a smaller section of tables.
The staff were helpful in trying to arrange a better position for our group given the error - they did a good job trying their best to accommodate :)
A few of us had gone up and ordered food, and it became apparent that it had become lost. People who were ordered after us were getting served. When enquired, they staff immediately realised what food was missing - however, no apology or explanation was made and the missing food which had clearly been sitting on the warming shelf was brought over. At this point, having easily sat out for 20+ minutes. I queried how long the food had been waiting for and was told “not long”. I again queried exactly how long and was told “a few minutes”. Given the rate at which others in the group were served, this wasn’t true. Also taking into account the food was luke warm at best, and absolutely would have been out for longer than a...
Read moreSo it was a bit of a mixed bag. Went for lunch and the food was good, no issues there, so happy with the kitchen staff, but the service was just truly bizarre. They got almost every order wrong, and not just once, but repeatedly (i.e. after getting the order wrong once, they tried again and got it wrong again, but in a different way). In fact, statistically they got the orders wrong in so many different ways that they should have eventually got them right by pure chance. After the fifth time they tried to deliver the wrong order, we ended up having to walk over to the computer with the guy and tell him what we'd ordered so he could enter it in and we could check he'd done it right (which he didn't and we had to correct him). Just for clarity, we are all kiwis talking to kiwi staff, so it's not like we have an accent or anything. All I can suggest is that they write orders down if they clearly can't remember them and probably don't go quite as hard the night before, as they were pretty dusty with it. If we were to expect the same experience again, we absolutely would...
