I stayed in the O’Sullivan Suite, which was on the top floor (4 floors if I remember correctly). After about a 10 hour flight, first time in New Zealand, I arrived at the hotel walking from Britomart Station, which was about 10-15 min walk. The hotel is located on a quiet street. Close enough to the Harbour but far enough that it is quiet. It was pouring with rain and I arrived at the hotel earlier than check-in time. The staff were kind enough to allow me to go to my room||Note I say “hotel” but as they have advertised themselves as boutique. There is only 1 lift and sometimes I would wait quite a while for the lift. The Suite is clean, big, bright with a modern feeling. Big bathtub to the left of the room, which has a separate shower, large TV and sofa next to it. There is another large TV opposite the bed. The wifi is fairly quick at 130 Mbps (although I’m writing this review in a hotel that has 500 Mbps). I didn’t try the food in the hotel but I did use the gym. The gym is in a big room with a number of machines but they could do with a good clean||The hotel is close to a lot of eateries including just downstairs Sierra Cafe that does a very tasty fresh smoothie! The TV in the hotel recommended Botswana Butchery and is an excellent recommendation. Note for any pharmacy or supermarkets you need to walk towards Britomart Station. Not sure if it’s Auckland or New Zealand in general but the shops shut early (around 7pm, Sierra Cafe shuts at 3pm!)||The hotel is near the Ferry Piers where you can take a ferry to Rangitoto Island and Devonport, which I both recommend. Note it does take a bit of effort/physical exertion to reach Rangitoto Summit (under an hour’s walk) and advise you wear comfortable footwear. I can’t believe I saw people wearing flip-flops…. At the summit you will have a wonderful view of Auckland and beware of the giant wasps! Devonport is much more relaxing than where Ohtel is situated. I was recommend Signal Hill restaurant and I would say this was on par with Botswana Butchery but at almost half the price. There were some other places I ate around Queen Street and I would say the food is decidedly average||Going back to the hotel, a definite recommendation and would consider it again next time I’m...
Read moreWe stayed here in a basic delux room on level 2 overlooking the pool. From the start, this hotel is focused on service. I had trouble booking online so rang the hotel. Maria booked a room and a car park for me. I received a confirmation email in a couple of minutes, and another email a few days before arrival to explain the check in procedures and to see what milk I wanted in the fridge. Check in can be a little hard due to their location and no parking outside the hotel as they were all full. I had to get the wife to drive around the block while I checked in and got the swipe to the car park. Check in was quick and we were soon parking and making our way to the room. The rooms are eclectic and unique with the shower and toilet a part of the room, separated by glass doors. I've stayed in places like that before, so it was fine. The beds are super-comfortable, the room was quiet and clean to a very high degree. We didn't use the pool, but it is shared with the apartments in the area. This hotel is very close to Wynyard Quarter and loads of restaurants. My only suggestion is to switch out the rug in our room. Although cleaned, it was the first thing we saw when walking onto the room and it had a few stains on it due to the light colour. The Japanese lady looking after reception at night was super-friendly. The coffee pods in the room are nice. The price of the room was fair and they don't price gouge for the car park like so many other places do . This will be where I book next time in Auckland and I recommend Ohtel if you are okay with the bespoke style of rooms. This is a very well managed hotel and the staff positive...
Read moreWe chose this hotel to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We live in Auckland and wanted a ‘staycation’. We loved the staff, the decor, the room- we had NO issue with the door for the shower/loo. It is a minute walk to the viaduct and all it has to offer. On arrival we found a gift of Prosecco and chocolate for our anniversary ❤️, such a lovely touch. The spa was great, the pool very refreshing 🥶. We just love the quirky decor and the individual styling. I wish we could give 5 stars…and perhaps for the heavy sleepers this would not be an issue…but ….the noise from the bar across the street is very loud if your room (as ours was) is at the front of the hotel. Once the music stops you then have noise from the revellers heading home. And then early morning pub bottle pick up….As I say heavy sleepers would likely not be bothered, and there are earplugs provided by the hotel. I guess it is the price to pay for the central location and the hotel itself cannot help this. I wonder if it is less of an issue on nights other than a Saturday (when we stayed). We can thoroughly recommend the hotel for everything else, and if you sleep well it won’t...
