The Park Hyatt is new and very nice. The rooms are stunning, eventhing has touch controls and ours come with a stunning harbor view which was stunning during the day and night. The curtains are full black out making the room pitch black which gave me an incredibly good sleep. The door out to the balcony is tripple glazed or something because when you fully lock the door you can hear nothing outside. Being located where it is, i would imagine on weekends and later nights during the week a lot of foot traffic a few floors below would echo up the building design.
In the room there's a large TV on an arm to rotate it to aim towards the bed or the lounge area. There's easy controls and connections to connect your laptop or other devices via HDMI, USB ports etc. and there are USB ports by the nightstands to charge your devices. Water pressure for the rain forest shower was great and the dual basins when getting ready is great. There was also a walk in ward drobe with plenty of storage for clothes, shoes, bags and a safe to store your valuables. The toilet is seperate to the bathroom and had it's own basin too.
Blinds control your privacy in your room and the balcony is very large and private. Since the hotel was new there were very few guests but the restaurants were busy. Not all were open (of the 4) but the prices were the same or less than what you'd pay at the nearby wynyard quarter area.
Dinner we ate in the hotel and was delicious, the service was very good and the staff were attentative but not too in your face which is nice. Constantly being asked about my feelings while i'm eating can get annoying so it's good they didn't do that.
Breakfast was possibly the best presentation of and tasting museli i've ever had in my life. I think the honey on the honeycomb was a fantastic touch. The eggs benedict were equally amazing with a paprika sprinkling to finish it off.
Overall the location of this hotel, the privacy it provides yet places you in the center of the city is great. I will totally stay here again if presented with a chance to, it felt international and a cut above other hotels I've stayed at throughout NZ. It's nice to know hotels with class and service like this can exist here after some of the shockers i've stayed at with similar star ratings. Pricing in comparisson to other hotels in NZ puts this at the top bracket but not out of reach, you're definitely getting what you...
Read moreEven before we arrived at our room, I already knew: this is Auckland's best hotel.
Location: Across the boardwalk from the CBD — which ordinarily wouldn't be a problem, except that during our stay the pedestrian drawbridge was out of service. Fortunately there's a small ferry that runs every 10 minutes and will get you across in about the same time, saving you a half-hour walk around the harbour.
You might find it a nuisance; for us it added to the charm of staying on the water.
Staff: Save for the one robotic server at breakfast it was five-star all the way. Of course our favourite staff member was the on-site dog Beau, ready for all the pets whenever he was on duty.
Room: We booked the cheapest available room through AMEX FHR and were upgraded at check-in to a harbour-view twin. The room's layout was especially great: not only was the toilet separate from the shower but the shower was separate from the tub — giving us two separate bathrooms plus a water closet.
Another thoughtful touch? Windows you could actually open to breathe in some fresh sea air.
Internet & TV: WiFi was decent, TV had media casting. The unit itself was attached to a movable arm and could be tucked away for maximum harbour view. This didn't bother me as much as I thought it would, possibly because the TV itself is enormous.
Food: Breakfast featured a buffet plus appetizers and hot entrées made to order, with both Western and Asian options available. Most of the dishes were great, but the open-faced omelette (isn't that a frittata?) was far too oily to have any discernable taste.
We used our food credit for dinner in another onsite restaurant, which was fine. There's also a lounge where you can order food all day long. You certainly won't go hungry here, just remember that there are good restaurants in the surrounding neighbourhood, too.
Earlier this same trip we stayed across the harbour at the new Intercontinental. It doesn't even come close — if you can afford it, the Park Hyatt is where...
Read moreStayed a Park Hyatt Auckland for a 4-day long weekend. Great location in the harbour with a short walk to the CBD, the ferry terminal and with heaps of good restaurant options in the area.||The architecture of the hotel is a stunning inside with a bright soaring atrium, interesting patterns and textures. Our room, a harbour view king, was very spacious and comfortable with an excellent bath and shower area. I’m a big fan of rain showers and this was wonderful – great water pressure, big shower head and lots of room. The room had good suitcase storage but no drawers to unpack into. The bed was very comfortable – a massive king that was a bit too big for my liking. Downside was the bedding. The pillows were too big and very soft. The bedding – a doona only. I really dislike doona only bedding – all hotel beds should have proper sheets as well as doonas and pillow options. ||The gym, pool and spa facilities are very good and got a good work out from us.||Lots of food options and all of them with great ground level views of the harbour – The Pantry café, Onemata restaurant, The Living Room and the Captains Bar. We used all and multiple times except for the Captains Bar. Good standard café offerings in the Pantry with pretty good coffee. Light meals and drinks in the living room were tasty and the right size. ||The breakfast buffet in Onemata was disappointing in selection and range. Also, it was all or nothing – you had to pay for the whole buffet and couldn’t just opt for the continental selections. We’ve stayed in Hyatt properties in 5 countries - Park Hyatt Canberra and Park Hyatt Dubai are my measure for really good breakfast buffets. Unfortunately, Onemata didn’t measure up for breakfast. ||On the other hand, the Gibbston Valley Winery 5-Course Wine Dinner we had in Onemata was superb with excellent textures, visuals, portions and tastes. A truly outstanding meal accompanied by great wine and excellent service.||Despite the bedding issue, we’ll definitely...
