John Dory's (Fish & Chip) Herne bay — Restaurant in Waitematā

Ordered and asked for 2 fish burgers with battered fish and the lady said thats an extra $1.90 for battered fish. Rude because I didn't ask how much is battered fish burgers I asked for 2 fish burgers with 2 battered fish. Asked for a battered hoki on it's own and a seafood basket plus 2 drinks. Total came to $48.90 gave her $50.00 cash and she took the cash, and put the cash in the till and closed it then gave me a look like why I'm still standing there. I said wheres my change and she goes "huh" I gave you $50 cash so change is $1.10.."oh sorry" was her reply...I wasnt going to give my change away when they're charging an extra $1.90 for battered fish! I've been here a few times the food is generally good quality however last nights burgers the buns felt like cardboard they were quite hard and the service is a bit of a mix. Somedays her English is top notch other days it's like she cant understand a word. I wont be rushing back here for a while. And by the way...the tables outside arent for dining between 8:30pm and 9pm which defeats the purpose of having tables outside and taking orders after 8:30pm so they should embrace to their businesses purpose...

The lady in front she is very friendly and don’t know why some customers had bad experience but for me as a first timer, the experience was good. I ordered 3 pieces of Sushi and fish of the day with fries. Guess what? Only cost me 19dollars which made me ask her how can you make money in Herne bay?? The lady she is always smiling and I can see she is really a hard worker and makes the place clean than most take away place. Fish are very fresh and fries have a good portion. Sushi is yummy but I know maybe it was nearly the end of the day so the look not very fresh but I can still taste the quality is good. What should I ask for more??? Amazing place!! The Fish and Chips are clean, crisp and really well done/tasty! There deep fried seafood (E.g Crab, Scollops and so on) are also done superbly! My mates have had the burgers and they always look soo good and they say they taste just as good as they look. There are so many options on the menu you wont be disappointed as there is something for everyone! But my favourite part of there whole place is THE SUSHI!!!! From Wednesday - Sunday they make sushi and OMG IT IS SO GOOD! Really great price, really big pieces and a large variety that they have make is amazing.
