Very understandable and there should be some information explaining this...

It's quite a cute little beach, with a cool view of the bridge and Watchman Island, however it's not the greatest for swimming (has to be quite full tide to be worth your time, and sand turns to mud a few meters out). Not a bad beach, but you can do much better...
