Queenies is an excellent café with strong form on food. Serving Supreme coffee from Wellington, you’re spilt with masterly coffee-making that may induce a second cup.
The food on offer is all superb. Don’t expect a boring menu, as Queenies has some delicious renditions of essentials, like Açai bowls and kedgeree, along with more interesting and brilliantly filling takes on Turkish eggs. The soup specials are ideal for warming yourself out of a winter funk.
The café’s atmosphere is perfect with high, vaulted ceiled and only limited seats. It feels cosy but not cramped. Outdoor seating ensures you won’t miss out, and makes for a great summer tome basking spot.
As you settle the bill, have a good peruse at the tempting treats in the cabinet. You’ll be hard pressed to pass up the ginger cake, fruit loaf, brownies or scones!! Try all of them, go on!

Read moreEverything about this place is beautiful inside and out from the building, the food, the coffee and the staff!! It’s a quaint little place but my wife and I were very lucky to have gotten a table as it was quite busy and full for a Sunday afternoon. Not many staff for a busy eatery but kudos to the beautiful sweet young lady out front who was very attentive and always smiling and laughing along with customers despite having her hands full - didn’t ask for her name but she’s a gem. The seasonal fruit bowl and the eggs benny are a MUST try. The benny comes with pulled pork which was definitely a first for me but was absolutely delicious- the type of meal you can have for lunch, dinner, breakfast, etc. The coffee is also another MUST try here- perhaps the best coffee we’ve ever had! Most definitely coming back to try the other things on the menu. Will recommend booking beforehand if you want to make sure you get a table. Well done...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing experience at Queenies for lunch today. Our first time in since the change of ownership and the new menu was uninspiring from the get go, with no sign of the hearty traditional dishes they used to have. Our coffee took 15 mins to arrive, and our food took another 40 minutes after that. Clearly, the new management are going for a faux-fancy look in terms of their menu - $24 for the beetroot salad which, although relatively tasty, was barely more than an appetiser in size and could not qualify as a lunch for anyone other than an anorexic. Supposedly the brightly coloured petals on top were to make up for the lack in actual nutrition, but overall I left feeling greatly unsatisfied and still very hungry. Gone are the days of Turkish eggs and kedgeree, now replaced by frilly, soulless plates boasting “Italian tradition” but leaving so much...
