Have stayed a few times at Lylo across different room types (pods/double room/queen interior with bathroom). All of the rooms are pretty nice, they’re really clean and well maintained. The pods are spacious inside and are really private, if you’re a bit claustrophobic probably not the best option for you but I really enjoyed them.

The double room is nice, it’s a really good basic private room. In the room I had I didn’t have air con though so it got hot really easily however it wasn’t such a big deal for me.

We checked out today and had a queen interior, the room itself is compact but comfortable. The private bathroom is so nice especially in a hostel situation, there’s a tv, sink and aircon too. Definitely recommend elevating your stay by getting a queen interior.

The rooms can be a bit stuffy as a lot of rooms don’t have windows but it’s not a major deal. The water from the shower in the queen interior can fill up and end up on the floor where the toilet is which makes the ground really wet. We had one bar of soap for the sink but would love if there was body wash/more soap for the shower. They’re not massive cons though just a bit of feedback.

The beds across the board are super comfortable and the common areas are really well decorated and looked after. Some of the showers could be a little bit cleaner, but as it’s summer it’s definitely picking up. There is a HappyTravel desk so perfect if you want info/need to make reservations. When we were leaving there was a tattoo/barber shop pop up which was sooo neat! Staff always super lovely, super handy having Miss Lucy’s there for a snack/drink. All in all, love Lylo and 100% recommend staying. I’ve seen a few bad reviews but tbh Lylo are probs the best hostel in NZ, you just need to make sure you’re picking a room type that...

The pods are great and clean, staff were ignorant and not good at all ! There is 0 atmosphere , more life in a graveyard ! upstairs area had pretty posh facilities for a hostel ! mixed feelings about this stay especially last day!!

It is sad to say this for a business but unfortunately places like this, beautiful, comfortable, I would like to give it 5 stars but it is disappointing that they have the majority of the staff in customer service with terrible service, with so many people wanting to work, they should give people the opportunity who really put in the effort to keep the business afloat. My experience since I arrived with my friend was uncomfortable. The girl at the reception, LEXI, was very rude from the beginning, my friend and I thought it was normal in a self-service hostel because at check-in she told us: "There are the screens, register with your information." My friend and I were really surprised but we let it pass. On our second booking back from Queenston I went to the cafeteria and only ordered a sandwich, there was no one waiting for a turn and I asked the colored girl for one and she just continued cleaning the glasses, and talking to the receptionist Lexi. They ignored me. Then a guy who worked with them arrived and realized that I was waiting there after 10 minutes and he took out the sandwich and told me if it was for take away and I was already very upset. In the end I had to eat my sandwich without the coffee because I ended up waiting for the staff to serve me. At the exit was the worst, the girl Lexi spoke very rudely to us about storing and collecting our suitcases, the worst thing was that she was afterwards talking and complaining to other staff, really very unprofessional. please change that staff for people who really want to...

LyLo is probably the most beautiful hostel in all of New Zealand. The design and comfort of the facilities are outstanding, and the atmosphere is welcoming. The hostel also features an on-site bar with regular entertainment and events, as well and a really cool bar team as a Happy Travels desk, offering excellent advice for tours, rental cars, and more.

A special thank you goes to Lisa, who works at Happy Travels. She speaks both German and English fluently and takes great care in helping guests. Her knowledge of Auckland/Newzealand and available activities is exceptional, and I truly appreciated the time she took to advise me thoroughly.

However, I must also mention a significant downside. The service at LyLo's reception is, unfortunately, lacking. During my first stay, I observed that the women working at the front desk spent hours chatting in the back office, neglecting guests who needed assistance. Lisa often stepped in to help, although this is not her responsibility. It was disappointing to see such little commitment from the reception team. I had the feeling the female receptionists prefer to hide in the back instead of helping guest. I saw that many times while my 2 stays at lylo. I mean the Check In at the Kiosk is pretty good, but not everyone have enough knowledge to do it by themselves. Despite this, two receptionists truly stood out: Matthew and Markus. Both were consistently present, helpful, and professional. They offered outstanding service and made a real difference during my stay.

While I'm not writing to complain, I do want to highlight that service quality can improve. Thanks to Lisa, Matthew, and Markus, I still give LyLo 5 stars. I will definitely return and recommend it to others.

Thank you for everything! Best...

I recently had the pleasure of staying at LyLo Auckland hotel and I must say, it was a truly exceptional experience. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces, making me feel instantly welcomed. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with modern décor and stylish furnishings that create a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. My room was spacious, clean, and well-appointed, with all the amenities I could possibly need for a relaxing stay. The staff at LyLo Auckland hotel are top-notch, providing excellent service and going above and beyond to ensure that my needs were met. Whether it was recommending local attractions to visit, arranging transportation, or simply offering a friendly greeting in passing, the staff truly made me feel like a valued guest. One of the highlights of my stay was the delicious breakfast offered at the hotel's restaurant. The food was fresh, flavorful, and expertly prepared, setting the perfect tone for a day of exploring the city. Overall, my experience at LyLo Auckland hotel was nothing short of amazing. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a comfortable and luxurious stay in the heart of Auckland. I can't wait to return and experience it all over again.

This is a funky home away from home. Everything was always clean and tidy. We had the quad room. Couldn't turn the mood lighting off but could pull the foam door across to remove lighting. The pods were warm but Lylo had listened and put a free standing fan in the room. This helped circulate cool air but if foam door was closed to block light then cold air couldn't get in. Perhaps have the lights on auto? Our auto didn't work. I am a bigger girl and my hips hurt on mattress but housekeeping gave me 2 spare duvets to fold which helped on 2nd night. Loved Miss Lucy's and everyone seemed happy just purching around the place doing their own thing. Reception printed me some bag tags I needed. Very helpful. Could do with some more hooks in showers but didn't dampen the experience. Had to ask for a towel. Didn't come in rooms. Wifi code was at reception not in rooms. Bad reception on rooms without wifi. So close to everything. Really really loved our stay. With 16 18 and 21 yr old and Mum.

The pods only have a tiny 120mm fan with bad bearings and poor airflow for ventilation. An upgrade to Noctua fan would be good! Otherwise the only AC is in the rooms themselves but it's absolutely nowhere near cold enough. Practically everyone sleeps with the doors open just to get some air, fans in the room are common. There's no windows too, which is odd. It's really hard to gauge the time of day, like being in a self storage locker. They have the ceiling lights on a timer to simulate sunlight but almost none gets into your pod, especially with the door closed. Even if it did It's indistinguishable from the floor lighting that's always on. Overall the place is really just a hotel with dorm rooms, decent bar and cafe downstairs with good prices. Travel agent selling tours, the usual large hotel hostel stuff. 24/7 check in was useful as I didn't arrive till 3AM. I would stay again but the value is hard to justify, over $50/night per pod.
