Such an awesome hidden gem here in Petone! From the minute we walked in, we were blown away by the colourful interior artwork/graffiti and exceptionally prompt service, which was further upraised by a generally chill/relaxed atmosphere perfect for people of all ages. Bonus points for the music not being intolerably loud unlike other pubs around. There is a fantastic variety of beers on tap, as well as wines, cocktails, RTDs and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. The highlight of our visit however was most definitely the food. WOW - these might just be the best loaded sandwiches in all of Wellington! The menu is extensive with something for everyone, including meat-eaters, vegetarians, children and light-eaters, with everything being easily modifiable too. The OG Ruben, fried chicken sammie and steak sammie were absolutely divine and could not be faulted in any way. The serving of perfectly-cooked chippies accompanied with each sandwich was very generous and the creole seasoning was heavenly too. I ordered the steak sammie (with a few customisations) and I am literally still salivating over the photos and thinking about it almost 24 hours later. In between two pieces of rye bread was the beautifully cooked and seasoned steak, melted swiss cheese, fragrant caramelised onions, rocket, aioli and crunchy fried potato. I was hesitant about the fried potato in a sandwich, but I am so glad that Leroy convinced me to keep it in as the crunch really elevated the sandwich even more. I also really liked how the sandwich wasn’t dripping with grease - it was just absolute perfection! We rated all our meals an 11/10. Overall, I couldn’t recommend Abandoned Brewery enough! Such an epic space with a very special vibe and immaculate food. Keep up the fantastic work team :)

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! Came here on Easter Friday at mid-day with 2 others. Between the 3 of us, we had 4 drinks and ordered the photo food. They then refused us further drink service because the staff decided for us that we "weren't here for purpose of dining". Over the top policing of kiwi downtime and a perfect way to ensure they alienate current and future custom. Farewell Abandoned. You shall now be. We're heading to Baylands Taproom around the corner. Suggest others do the same. Don't come to this brewery if you want to drink beer. Suggest renaming from Abandoned to Avoid.

Abandoned strikes again. What could easily be dismissed as a a grunge beer bar of old shows a level of depth delivered by industry veterans. Great beer (on tap and take away - try the current, ridiculously refreshing Tangarine Sour!), fantastic food (shout out to the OG Scheckter's Deli Reuben - both meaty and halloumi versions!) easy going with indoor and outdoor seating, dog friendly, kid friendly (ask for the pens to draw on the walls), and helpful staff. Glad to have a new go-to in Petone.

Pleasantly surprised by our lunch today at this different kind of spot I’d not normally visit. Friends had invited us along that love the place and I have to say we enjoyed it too. The array of sandwiches were delicious that came out with yummy chips and a pickle on the side. It was a “you can’t beat Welly on a good day” kind of weather, so we sat outside at a table in the sun. Was great to see all the dogs out enjoying their day with their humans, we’ll take ours next time. The Scapegrace Blood Orange Gin & Tonic complimented the meal & gorgeous day. Roll on summer! Our friends enjoyed their beers. Thanks team, we will be back to try some...
