Ruchi Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in Wellington

I have to admit, being part-Indian and having a great cook for a Mother, I'm rather picky about where I eat out for Indian food. Recently discovering Ruchi in Petone was, however, a revelation, and not just because of the familiarity of the aromas wafting over from the kitchen, but also the warmth and genuine interest in talking about the food on offer from our host, Sherry Antony. This alone was such a refreshing change for me personally as I remember so vividly growing up in Wellington and seeing the acceptance of Indian cuisine, evolving from a rarely or almost never dining choice to its current status as an established and much favoured go-to for families and couples alike. When you already know what great Indian food tastes like and you rediscover it at a dining out level, it really is a revelation. If I'd done a blindfolded test of the lamb biryani I ordered against my Mother's own recipe, I know emphatically that I would not have been able to taste the difference. My two dining companions totally agreed that the curries we ordered were some of the finest we'd eaten for a very long time, and we will definitely be returning to Ruchi in the New Year to sample some of the other mouthwatering dishes on offer. Sherry, to you and your kitchen crew, keep up the great work; you're making food to be justifiably proud of. On this Father's Day, we decided to dine at Ruchi, and it turned out to be an extraordinary experience. What made the evening truly exceptional was the outstanding customer service provided by the owner, Sherry.

From the moment we stepped in, Sherry greeted us warmly, making us feel like treasured guests. He had an incredible way of connecting with our kids, instantly becoming their favorite. This personal touch added a heartwarming touch to our Father's Day celebration.

Throughout the evening, Sherry's attentiveness was flawless. He offered thoughtful recommendations that ensured our meal was very enjoyable.

The restaurant's ambiance was elegant and inviting and served delicious food. We felt well looked after unlike most other restaurents where the personal connection is missing.

So we went here for a casual dine in a couple of days ago. The restaurant as expected for a dine-in in these days was not too busy, but we did notice a lot of delivery orders coming in.

Not sure if it was because of that, or the staff was on holiday, but our order of Amritsari Kulcha and Aloo Tikki Chat took 28 minutes to arrive from the time we ordered.

Although the owner and the staff did keep on apologising to us about the delay, we were almost about to move out before the order arrived.

The owner was quite courteous and apologetic about the same, which I believe is all that customer service is about, owning your mistakes and work towards fixing them.

The food was pretty good, felt almost authentic, which is quite rare to find around this area.

Will definitely be visiting again for a proper dinner here.
