Where do a I begin? So I decided to order an iskender from Kilim to be delivered by 8:30pm 6/12/17 to where I work... and what a joke! $23 (including delivery fee from deliver easy) and I seriously will never be ordering again. This place is a far cry from the quality and quantity you can get from other Turkish places in the Wellington region (to name one off the top of my head is an amazing Turkish place in hataitai which leaves you satisfied and the quality AND quantity is seriously brag worthy that I can’t fault it).
I’m actually disappointed I didn’t take a photo of what was delivered but best example I can give is if you get takeaways regularly then you know what a medium size plastic takeaway container is... THAT is what I got my iskender in! I get more from ‘Kebab on Queen’ (courtney place) and that place is as average as they come NOW THAT IS SAYING SOMETHING.
I have eaten food from a plethora of places in New Zealand and am a good judge of food so Kilim is a serious let down and considering I live in Petone and eat at places like Logan Brown right through to Mekong Cafe believe me when I say that you can find better Turkish food (especially a lamb iskender) elsewhere.
A medium sized plastic takeaway container... I can’t wrap my head around it. Before Mehmet sold the place to the new owner it was good and he cared about both quantity and quality. What a let down... if you want to survive in the food industry up your game and maybe take some lessons from the Owner of the Turkish place in Hataitai or even ask Mehmet to come back or even ask the owner of Abrakebabra.
Sorry for the long post but I wouldn’t leave a dishonest review ever since I blog about food...
Read moreWell designed Turkish place in Wellington. The place has a real Turkish vibe with all that Middle Easter ornaments. Menu is authentic Turkish menu with a touch of western cuisine but some of the main foods are not served in authentic and traditional way. For example Iskender kebab which is a very famous Turkish food and should be served on chopped Turkish bread and sauce, in this restaurant is served on rice. Staff are really friendly and polite. We ordered mixed grill plate, Adana burger and lamb güvec. I also inquired if they serve Ayran (Turkish yogurt drink) but the answer was no. Also place doesn’t serve alcohol but is a byo.
Adana burger was food of the night for us. Authentic taste and decent size. It was spicy and this is the real Adana style food.
Mixed grill was ok but really poor presentation. Everything was thrown in a plate with some salad and beetroot deep and a piece of Turkish bread which was covered with beetroot deep. My friend who doesn’t like beetroot was pretty upset so I swapped my bread with him. Güvec was really nice, well cooked and presented also really spicy which shouldn’t be! Actually all of our orders were spicy but it can be a misunderstanding from our side as my friend asked for spicy sauce which could be interpreted as we all wanted of our foods spicy!
Price was reasonable in comparison to other Turkish places I have been and also if you consider the portion of the food. Kitchen closes at 9 pm. The place has no parking issues and there is lots of parking spaces...
