Walk your dog, take a stroll or jog along the beach, watch the fabulous sunsets, cook your BBQ, eat your fish and chips or go rowing, sailing or fishing. You will find these amenities available (toilets, outdoor BBQ ovens, boat ramp, wharf) to facilitate your enjoyment of the foreshore.
This is a popular destination all year round and especially in summer when it's warm enough to go swimming and picnicking. From Petone Wharf, you can also catch a ride via the Dominion Post Ferry direct to Wellington's Queen's Wharf (check East West Ferry's timetable first).
Remember to clean up after yourselves and remove your litter so that the next person may enjoy the foreshore just as much as you did.
The Foreshore also includes a section that is favoured by jet skiers, water-skiers, rowers and sailors (tucked away beyond the GPS location given here). It is popular and invaluable as a recreational and instructional resource, complete with boat ramp, for developing maritime skills and experience especially in the next generation.

The water is reasonably shallow and normally gentle waves, great for a family picnic with kids and swimming in the summer. The beach is next to The Esplanade so access by car is very easy. McEwan Park is on the East end with Hikoikoi Reserve. Petone wharf off Victoria street is a pleasant place for a walk and popular fishing spot. The Petone Settlers Museum is worth a look for popular and...
Read morePetone foreshore at sunrise or sunset is a beautiful short walk with stunning views. Lots going on in the area quite often with kayaks and sail boats. I visit often and the sand dune restoration has greatly enhanced the area over the years. There is an excellent fox kiosk at the end and a children's playground that my kids really enjoy. The local council has done fantastic work cleaning up the scrub and the trees down the far end that makes the area much more attractive and feels alot safer and better cared for than in the past, and it shows by how bustling it has become with lots of familes enjoying the great work that's been done. Great vibes...
