Petone Neighbourhood Hub — Attraction in North Island

Today was my first time visiting the Petone library and I will not be coming back. I arrived at about 11am to try get some much needed work done and it was immediately SO noisy I was barely able to focus at all. If you want somewhere quiet to go to get some work or study done, or to just have some quiet time, this is NOT the place to go. A cafe I went to near here was better than this!

For context, what I heard while I was there: People constantly having loud conversations as if they were outside the ENTIRE TIME (employees included), babies crying/screaming, and something constantly banging for about 20-30 straight minutes. Not to mention, the library has a dedicated "quiet area" yet in the one hour I was there, at least three people walked in and made SO MUCH NOISE — a pair of ladies talking as if they were at a cafe, and another lady who WORKS THERE walked in basically scream-talking to someone behind her, then proceeded to talk to herself while inside this "quiet" area and making a constant shuffling noise for 15ish minutes.

My advice: go to a cafe instead. At least the talking their is more of an ambiance which you very quickly grow accustomed to. Here you'll get maybe 30-60 seconds of peace, then 10+ minutes of people being so unaware of their surroundings and being disrespectful to others in the...

Not the most spacious library, but hey it's got computers with overpriced WiFi... Oh and books... That's right, libraries used to focus on books didn't they? Oh well. I'm sure teenage kids on Facebook and grandpa whose too cheap to buy a newspaper are happy, so hey. I still read books though. Call me old if you want. At least Petone library doesn't have nearly as many smelly homeless as the Wellington central library used to...
