Fidel’s was a spectacular find when we last visited Wellington a year or two ago. Having been up early and walked a few kms, I would not be persuaded to accept any other breakfast option. Fidel’s or die. It wasn’t super busy and we were able to get a nice table inside. It took a while to place our order, but that’s ok. But then it took forever to even get the coffees. I’m not sure if we were forgotten or invisible or offensive. When the coffee did come it was good. Sadly I was a bit disappointed in the breakfast. I’d gone for the eggs benny with bacon and a side of mushrooms. It was just a bit underwhelming, like an English national football team. The mushrooms were tasteless, no seasoning, and bizarrely quite watery. The Favourite Husband was too starved to comment much on his as he was chowing down. I think I deciphered the word “average” through a spray of toast crumbs. There’s so many enticing looking cafes to choose from in this cool little city, I feel like next time this lady will be persuaded to pastures new.

2024: Had been some what of a regular the last two decades, and not one to post 1 star reviews but had recently experience what Fidel's become. For whatever reason, the lack of service was noticeable. Wait times to be seated, coffee orders taken and to be received, exceeded the 40min mark. Water cups were covered in dust. We didn't even attempt to order food, knowing it was quite the investment on time. Huge let down as I've praised Fidel's through the years. * 2009: Delightful brunch affair, with great coffee. ****

Quickly becoming a fave and regular of mine. The food is great value and usually a 10/10 homerun. And the coffee/drinks are always on. Ive yet to try their desserts & cabinet food but it all looks amazing. Love the ambiance and different settings—out back is definitely the cutest vibe. Their playlist is also often 🔥🫶🏾 and just a nice place to be. Kaimahi are super friendly but not overbearing (a fine balance to be sure) and i always feel welcome—even when i’ve come on a busy day/morning. 12/10, highly recommend!

We’d heard positive things about Fidel’s and was excited to give it a go as it had a good range of vegetarian options for brunch. The food did not disappoint! However, the service speed and attentiveness was a huge let down and made the experience at Fidel’s a bit chaotic and not relaxing. We’re hoping we caught them on a bad day as everyone else speaks highly. Staff were very polite when spoken too, we just felt we had to chase and wait abit longer than other people who had come in after us for certain things.

Wasn’t quite what we were expecting to receive when ordering blueberry compot and fried chicken waffles. Firstly the friend chicken waffle was only tenders, barely any candied cashews, one oblong of waffle. A bit disappointing and the tenders weren’t great. Secondly the blueberry compot was only some frozen berries that had been heated. The apple slaw was amazing and overall it was quite yummy. Flat white was great as was the ginger good s#!t. Friendly staff and got a table within 5 mins of lining up.

We visited this cafe for brunch, on our trip to Wellington. This place was extraordinary!! The samosa was so light n yet crispy on the outside bringing out all the beautiful flavours , Fidel’s feast was delicious n perfect for brunch and not to forget , the Cuban burrito was a massive hit !! Loved every bit of food which was on the table. Also to mention, the service was really good n pretty fast even though the place was crowded. Definitely looking forward to our next visit.
