Tomboy — Restaurant in Wellington

Nice atmosphere and food is great but if you want a coffee only, go elsewhere. $6 plus for a small flat white and 15% surcharge on Public Holidays means you'd pay $14 for two coffees....

Using such products is not unusual, nor does it warrant such a high base price. The coffee is nice, but no nice than 90% of Wellington's hundreds of cafes. Whilst surcharges on public holidays is absolutely common, when this is applied to an already ridiculous price this becomes even...

Such a cute little café in a cool suburb! There's usually a queue outside on weekends. It's always closed when I walk past in the late afternoon during the week because they close early. So, I was thrilled to actually get inside, have a seat, and experience what this café is all about on a weekday morning. Lovely cabinet food and soft music. A very cozy place. No wonder it's so popular with the locals. You can sense the local vibe in there. I enjoyed their breakfast egg brioche and a latte. Then I had to rush out. I wish I could have spent more time in this cozy place. I'd love to come back and try more...

Hypothesis: You can have your cake and eat it too.

Method: Order a vanilla bean cream cheese cake from Tomboy Majoribanks Street (pro-tip: stand out from the crowd by correctly pronouncing it "Marsh-banks"; refuse to explain yourself when the plebs ask "where's that?").

Eat a slice of the cake. It's delicious. Eat more.

Result: You no longer have a delicious cake.

Conclusion: You can't have your cake and eat it too. Also, order more cake from Tomboy....
