The food was really good. The service was good. The prices were pretty elevated. 2000 cordobas for 3 main courses and 2 waters which is about $60 at the moment. There is a forced tip on the bill which likely gets stolen by the restaurant and never ends up in the servers pocket (typical of nicaragua). Also, if the server messes up and puts the wrong item on your order or something similar they charge the server for the mess up -this was going to be the case in our situation but we ended up paying for the mess up, an extra 300 cordoba we didnt intend on spending. We paid it because the 300 cordoba he would have paid for us is likely more than he would have made that day as a typical pay in Nicaragua is about 200-250 cordoba a day.
No complaints whatsoever on the food.
a water bottle here that costs about 20 cordoba normally, and maybe up to 30-35 cordoba at a restaurant costed 45 here, just so you can understand how the pricing works here, everything is super taxed on.
You also pay tax on the bill as well. I recommend having them remove the tip from the bill and then giving it to the server in his hand so they are less likely to steal it from them (this applies for all places with a tip already on the bill...
Read moreIf I could give this place zero stars, I would. I walked in for what I thought would be a casual evening, only to be completely robbed in broad daylight. The Scammer on the right noticed we were American and secretly charged my card $1000 for TWO MARGARITAS. Yes, you read that right—a grand for a couple of average, nothing-special drinks. I’ve had better margaritas at a dive bar for 10 bucks.
Not only was the pricing absolutely outrageous, but the service was horrendous. The waiter barely acknowledged our existence, and when I questioned the absurd bill, he acted like it was completely normal. I don’t know what kind of scam they’re running, but this is daylight robbery.
Save yourself the time, money, and frustration. Unless you want to throw away $1000 for something that should cost $20, stay far, FAR away from this place....
Read moreMy recent visit to El Timon restaurant in San Juan was truly unforgettable. Over the course of five nights, I indulged in their exquisite lobster dishes, trying every preparation method they offered – and each one was perfection. My exceptional waiter, Marlon, ensured that every order was spot on and that my drinks were always topped up.
What truly made my experience stand out, however, was the outstanding service provided by the entire staff. But one person who deserves special mention is Danny, the manager. By the end of my stay, I felt like he was more than just a manager – he was a friend. Danny went above and beyond to make me feel at home, and his dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience was evident in every interaction. I left El Timon feeling like I'd experienced the very best of San Juan...
