Haven't eaten outdoor in a long while thanks to covid so decided to do a late lunch with two of my guys at this 'new' place. Impressive interior decor, great outdoor setting and fairly good quality food - telltale signs of an experienced restaurateur. But the positives end here as you'll soon see. I had arrived first, picked a table for three outside and settled in nicely. The first disconcerting feeling was the large number of expatriate supervisors swarming everywhere, managing perception as we suspect staff do when they're more than required. One expatriate supervisor came to my table almost immediately after I had settled in to drop a note under the Light Bottle on the Table. I asked him what it was and he mumbled something in poor English. I didn't understand but decided to spare him another attempt at speaking by not asking him to repeat himself. Mistake. Then my guys arrived and the poorly trained local staff took over with all manner of improvisation but still couldn't get the orders right. We still managed to keep our spirits high by politely pointing out the errors and making do with the improvised orders. After our meals and while settling the bill, the poor-English-speaking expatriate comes back to our table pointing to the note he had earlier dropped, saying we had to leave because the table was reserved. At this point we had lost it and took out all our frustration with their poor, disorganized and preferential service, promising never to be seen anywhere near them, again. Disastrous was our summation. I hope they change...

Read moreBad reviews are no fun to write. You end up just thinking about the bad experience as you write it the following morning, and in many cases, you get upset all over again. I went to this place because 2 days earlier I had been to the Cilantro in Abuja for the first time and was completely blown away by the experience. The restaurant looked great, it was huge, the waiters were attentive and friendly, the food was brilliant both in terms of quality and quantity, and the pricing was surprisingly really good.
This was not the case at the other one. Some things I can forgive, because Lagos is a different social and business landscape to Abuja. I didn't expect the portions to be as big, or the prices to be as low, but I expected to be treated to a similar experience. You see I assumed that because the Cilantro brand was so big that they would have worked very hard to unify the experience across all their restaurants, I was wrong. Abysmal performance by the waiters, and generally lackluster approach to the food. What hurt the most was when I posted on my social media that I didn't enjoy my experience there and people came out to say "oh yeah we could've told you not to go there, that place sucks". As far as I can tell, this restaurant operates as a place where people who appear to be very rich can hang out, but with little real interest in the business of being a restaurant. A...
