Another amazing restaurant by the duo that launched RSVP in 2014. Just when you thought that there was no room on the high end of the market for restaurants in Lagos, Nahi and Maya prove logic and the market wrong by opening a restaurant, during Covid and some of the worst economic times that Nigeria has seen that is MORE expensive than RSVP. Who would have thunk it? The restaurant has been an instant success. I have never been when it was not full. There is a reason for this. It's beautiful without trying to be fancy, the service is comfortably world-class without feeling strained and the food tastes like it was made by a genius that could produce simple but amazing dishes in his or her sleep without trying. I think the most refreshing thing about the entire place is that it just works so well. In many restaurants in Lagos, you don't expect perfection and most of the time you are just waiting for something to break, be it service, food or drinks. It's rare to have a perfect experience. At Slow everything is comfortably perfect to a point where even if something went wrong you know that it would be calmly and quickly corrected and the norm of perfection would return. I don't know how or for how long they trained the staff, but every resturant owner, manager, and waiter in Lagos should go to Slow a few times and see what perfect resturant serivce delivery feels like as a customer. Ok, I have not mentioned the cocktails yet. RSVP helped change cocktails in the Lagos market by being one of the first places that made cocktails with fresh, local ingredients and a lot of passion and love. While the cocktails at RSVP are deliciously on the sweet side the cocktails at Slow seem more mature. Less sweet, with more subtle tastes for a more sophisticated pallet. We loved all of them. I had the Pedro Zobo cocktail made with local Agogora Pedros and zobo. Simply amazing and 100% locally sourced. Just how a cocktail in Lagos should be. We had the ceviche trio as a starter and it was just absoultely perfect and refreshing. The fact that you can see the kitchen and it looks clean with everyone wearing hair nets gives you comfort to eat raw food in Nigeria. The slow cooked beef short ribs fell off the bone and the glaze was incrdible. I think they must have sous-vided the octopus, because it was shockingly tender. The sauce on it was amazing. But the thing that my wife and I are still having food joy over is the chocolate tart. We both remarked "I have never made anything this good" and we both love to cook. It's probably one of the best desserts I have ever had. Creamy, chocolatly but not too sweet. Go have a cocktail, sit at the bar, and try this as soon as you can. Overall best dining experience and best food we have had in Lagos. We...
Read moreYou know those restaurants they’d advise you to hold vex money when you’re going on a date? omo! It’s @slowlagos because food was & is not cheap. Anyway, here’s my full review. Duck Confit - 18,800 So this is a classic French dish usually made with the whole duck but this came with two duck legs (stated on the menu). The duck confit legs were placed on fried duck fat sliced potatoes, then came with Dijon garlic aioli & pomegranate reduction.
The only thing they got right with this dish was the doneness of the duck - it was meltingly tender, falling off the bone situation, I didn’t need a knife to eat this.
The taste of the duck lacked mellow flavors, not sure what liquid this was cooked in but it wasn’t richly flavored, somewhat bland.
The Dijon garlic aioli would have been perfect along side the richly flavored duck because the vinegar in the Dijon against the taste of the duck would have harmonized perfectly. I would have advised regular mustard if they asked me 😂
Lastly, the pomegranate reduction which was supposed to be a juice concentrate came in its original state, used as decor! 🤦🏾♀️ Salmon Fillet on Peruvian rice - 16,800
Everything on this dish was giving everything. All the textures combined was so satisfying. The pan seared miso glazed salmon fillet was actually pan seared just off the texture & doneness of the fish I was served. I would also say this was perfectly seasoned, all ingredient used in the making of this balanced out perfectly. I’d commend the presentation of the food, looked really appealing to the eyes. Less wait time as they had a staff already assigned to a table. The waiters were really knowledgeable about the menu, so you’d get extensive walkthrough incase you needed. P.S - you need to make a reservation to eat here, I had tried weeks before but they were always fully booked. If you try to walk in without a reservation on a weekday, you will go back home 😂
I hear it’s also a great place for night life on fridays, you don’t need a reservation for this. Location to the restaurant is really easy find...
Read moreAhhh!!!! SLoW Lagos...loved loved loved it! If you are ever searching for a proper fine dining experience, with decadent meals, good wine selection, great cocktails, impeccable customer service experience and most of all the ambience... this is the place to be.
There's something about SLoW... from the entrance wherein you are greeted into the most interesting vibe which is a fusion of a 1950's Diner and a modern contemporary take on a lounge and bar to a pretty nature themed haven.
The place is tastefully designed with natural indoor plants almost as high as the ceiling. SloW gives off great aesthetic pleasures immediately you walk in.
The music selection is really classy, jazzy and very relaxing. I was blown away from the moment I stepped in. I almost thought I was taken back in time but with a modern twist. There was also something about the ceiling which was made to look like a factory warehouse and created a rustic look to the overall setting.
I could go on and on but let's focus on food now shall we..lol. Now I will advise you to make reservations as they don't do walk-ins. They also operate a soft opening which means they only have a dinner menu option for now and kickoff at 6pm daily.
Now we had a great Waitress - Francisca (a perfect host). She practically took us through the menu and overall gastro journey. She had a good knowledge of the menu and best cocktails or wine to pair with our meal. Her recommendations were perfect. We had a delicious medley of food and flavors. I will highly recommend the Confit Duck Legs and the Lamb Chops. I couldn't fault it. These guys don't joke with quality of ingredients. The Cocktails were fashionable potent and really good. It's an upscale restaurant so I'd advise you come prepared. They also have platters for groups.
It was my birthday when I visited and so I was pleasantly surprised with the complimentary cake and birthday song done by the pretty waiters/waitresses. It's a mighty fine place for friends, dinner dates, of course totally instagram-worthy.
I will definitely be visiting SLoW Lagos very soon! Highly...
