I have been to many resturants in Bergen, and my uncle runs a pretty successfull resturant with the biggest official wine cellar in all of Stavanger. I can clearly say this is one of the Top resturant experience you can get in all of Bergen. Top Atmosphere, Top quality of food, Top service and Interesting drinks such as Honey Wine in their selection. Althou their overall menu is short and simple, its food is exotic enough and the experience is at its top. Aided by the excellent service they provide and the atmosphere of the resturant and traditional coffee is served along with incense and popcorn! They did what not many country-themed resturants are able to do, and that is to bring a proper piece of their homeland feel into their resturant. The music was authentic and relaxing and not to loud, the resturant is small and cozy, so it's an excellent place to bring a company or a date out for a interesting and exciting dinner! The people who run this resturant certainly done their homework! The exotic food might be abit daunting at first and you are unsure if you will like it or not, But even if it weren't to suit your taste, you'll still leave the place with a good at least exciting experience that you won't regret if you brought with you some good company. And more importantly, The Price. As someone who has been in many resturants throughout Norway. both in Bergen, Stavanger and Oslo. The Price is definatly at the very cheap department. If you can afford a takeaway pizza with Student prices., you can afford eating at this resturant.
TL;DR: It's a small, quiet, cozy place with good food and excellent service. With prices far under 90% of most resturants you'll...
Read moreI stayed in Bergen for a week, ate at a different restaurant every day and none made me want to come back. They weren't terrible and were presented prettily on the plate...but were always super overpriced (example: I paid 50 USD at one place for a bowl of fish soup, a cesar salad and an Irish coffee! tf...) and none of the flavors wowed me. But as soon as I walked into The Horn of Africa I knew I finally found what I was looking for; the air smelled heavenly from the food she was cooking in the back, the vibe was warm and inviting. She was very hospitable, made sure I knew how to properly eat the delicious meal (no utensils used) and indulged me in friendly conversation with home made tea after I was done eating. 23 USD!! The menu is very simple, the prices are wallet friendly, the owner wears multiple hats as the chef/host/waitresss/busboy yet didn't sacrifice customer service or quality of food one bit. Do yourself a favor, check this place out and...
Read moreThis was my second time here, and unfortunately the experience was not as good as my first time. The first time, the waiter was extremely friendly and helpful where he explained everything and made sure we had everything we wanted, the food was relatively speedy and delicious, and the whole experience was overall excellent.
However, while the food was very good this time, the service was not (hence the 3 stars). We waited at our table for about 30 minutes before the waitress took our food and drink order. We didn't get our food until after being there for one hour and 15 minutes, and during this time, not once did the waitress check in on us, ask if we wanted more drinks, or explain why it was taking so long to get the food. I think overall we talked to her 4 times, otherwise she was completely out of sight. I'm not sure if it was very short staffed tonight, but it just wasn't a great experience this...
