We had a special occasion to celebrate and chose this venue but unfortunately were quite disappointed. The view is stunning , but both the food and service were far from 'fine dining'. We booked a table inside and ordered the tasting menu with wine paring. Asparagus was not properly peeled, fish was overcooked, veal was overcooked on one side and undercooked on the other and was not properly trimmed, desert was OK. Service: our waiter seemed in a rush all the time, while we saw other waiters engaging with customers at other tables with more ease and care. She presented every dish so fast that it was often difficult to catch everything. The wine was never served together with food, either way before the food or after, the waiter presented the wine in a similar rush, without mentioning what are the aroma and taste notes in the wine or why it goes well with a certain food (everything that is usually done when ordering wine pairing), when pouring wine, the waiter spilled over drops over the tablecloth (as she didn't use any napkin or towel and was rushing). When we provided the feedback before leaving, we were told that it was too busy - cheap excuse as it's not something a customer should care (not when paying for 'fine dining') - either have more staff or fewer customers, and as we had dinner quite late, there were actually just few tables occupied from half way into our dinner. On the positive, we were moved to a table by the window to enjoy the view after we saw an empty table and asked -...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Ekebergrestauranten during a beautiful evening in Oslo, and it was nothing short of spectacular. As someone who deeply appreciates cities close to the ocean and enjoys breathtaking views, Ekebergrestauranten instantly felt like the perfect choice.
The restaurant's location, perched on a hillside overlooking the city and the Oslofjord, is truly unmatched. The panoramic views created a serene and almost magical dining atmosphere, especially as the sunset painted the sky in hues of orange and pink.
The menu is a brilliant blend of traditional Norwegian flavors with a modern twist. I decided to try the reindeer filet, which was cooked to perfection, tender, and packed with flavor. The side of root vegetables and a creamy lingonberry sauce tied everything together beautifully. The staff's attention to detail was impressive; they were not only knowledgeable about the dishes but also incredibly warm and welcoming.
As someone who enjoys exploring local cuisines with a modern edge, this experience stood out. It reminded me of why I love discovering places that balance tradition with innovation, much like how I approach my own work in marketing.
Ekebergrestauranten isn’t just a meal—it’s an experience. Whether you're a tourist seeking a taste of Norwegian culture or a local celebrating a special occasion, this is the place to be. It’s a memory I’ll cherish and a spot I can’t wait to...
Read moreEkebergrestauranten is set in a stunning location overlooking Oslo and the fjord. I recommend taking time before or after your meal to walk around the sculpture park, as it adds to the whole experience. The atmosphere is elegant yet relaxed, and the view, especially at sunset, is breathtaking. Service was generally good but had a few shortcomings. Despite having a reservation, another couple who arrived just after us was seated and attended to first. We waited about 15 minutes before receiving menus, and the time between courses felt a bit too long. The food itself was good, both in flavor and presentation. The crab and scallop dishes were delicious, and the bread with butter was simple but well done. For the mains, the turbot was flavorful and nicely presented, though a little fatty. The veal special tasted great, but the meat was unfortunately very chewy, which was disappointing. To make matters worse, the knife provided wasn’t suitable for cutting beef, and it was difficult to get the staff’s attention. The meal ended on a high note with an excellent pavlova, light, crisp, and perfectly balanced. Overall, Ekebergrestauranten is worth visiting for the setting, views, and some standout dishes, but service and consistency in the mains could...
