A LOT OF CAFÉ AND NOTHING GRAND!

Years after my initial review I am sad to report that the service and beverages are at an all-time low!!

In my misguided excitement as summer approaches in Oslo I decided to try again. The service is random, the beers are dead with no improvement after three attempts. A second glass of wine that we ordered was poured into the not yet empty glass from the previous serving without conversation.

Recommend you stay away as any other place in the city center will treat you better and serve you real beverages courteously at lower prices.

The new Grand Cafe is about as touristy as it can be in Oslo now. Besides a great location there is not much left of what made it great before. I have had the local Oslo beers for 40 years and here they tasted watered down, and the white wine had no tears in the glass. Service was slow with long waits between visits to the table. Staff does not come across as knowledgeable. Then other touristy places along Karl Johansgate are better. Doubt you will find many locals coming back for a second visit. This used to be one of my favourites in Oslo, not anymore. Perhaps I am not in their segment as I won't pay premium price for...

Second time and last time. Before renovation it was better, even indoor design. Have no idea why they touch the history since whole Oslo is lacking of historic architecture. But lets blame the danish and swedish for that 😜 First time I was here and wanted to feel “poshy” since the hotel has name GRAND...🤔...I didnt. Service was just ok and my wien/norwegian schnitzel was just so thin and dry that I didnt know if I eat paper or meat. Wien schnitzel suppose to be thin but juicy and bigger then plate, with butte on top. But it doesnt have to be that greasy. Since is dry, the butter wont make it juicy😉So as lady you eat something dry, greasy and on side of it is one potato cut in pieces and tiny tiny tiny salad. Maybe bad season for potatoes and thats why is 1 per person 🤷🏻‍♀️ 🤔 second time( and I didnt wanted to go there) had steak sandwich...taste was good👌🏻It was quality steak BUT you never let steak to serve it cold. Why? You cant chew it. I spend one hour min to chew this sandwich 😂 And the outdoor service🙄 The way how waiter talk, as Im his friend....this place has to...

We had dinner at this restaurant a couple days ago. It's a very nice place with good food, and good Chardonnay wine. The lamb meat of the 3 course menu melted in our mouths. The starter was a bit spicy but some people do like it like that. The dessert was a bit disappointing, as I didn't like it that much. All in all though, a good and solid menu. And afterwards, I had one of the best Lattes I've ever ordered somewhere. However, it would be nice if this restaurant would also serve Mokka. Sounds like a lot of complaints, but those were just small things that could have made the stay a bit better. The service for example, was very good, very professional, very attentive, and very friendly. I never had to tell them twice, that I didn't want more wine anymore. They remembered it the whole evening and only gave wine to the others.

Something that wasn't acceptable though, were the toilets. The toilets for both, men and women were dirty and not cleaned at all. Very disappointing in that regard and not what I expected from such an expensive and...

Oslo ✨ 6 Local-Approved Restaurants❗❗

A lovely place for dinner to mark our last evening in Oslo. We made our reservation about 2 hours in advance and went shopping after that. We arrived on time and were promptly seated. It was good to be indoors where it was warm. The maitre'd placed the menus in front of each of us and soon, our server came by to explain the contents and the specials. We opted for fish and mutton. When the dishes arrived, we were all very hungry and tucked in eagerly. My fish was done nicely and even the sauce was delicious. The plating was not extraordinary but it was neat and attractive. I found my fish to be fresh and the texture, soft in a melt in your mouth kind of way. We were tempted by desserts but opted for wine and coffee instead. The restaurant is quite large and the tables are arranged spaciously apart. There is a huge painting or mural on the back wall and it matches the interior decor of the restaurant perfectly. The lighting is good, exuding warmth and positive vibes. There is a open kitchen where the diners (us) can observe the chefs preparing our food.

Today I purchased two Easter breakfasts. I am very disappointed – for a Grand Hotel and at such a price, the breakfast consisted only of a buffet made up of ready-made ingredients, many of which I recognized from local supermarkets. I don’t eat meat, and I felt that the choice of vegetables was extremely poor – only cucumber and tomato. There was only one type of cheese, no waffles, no salads, just one type of pancake, and no homemade specialties at all. I was hoping for a variety of salads, different kinds of vegetables and fruits, and some pastries or cakes for dessert – just like I have experienced in many other hotels around the world. In Berlin, for example, during Easter, the boiled eggs were beautifully colored, each guest received chocolate Easter bunnies, and the tables were decorated with lovely daffodils and Easter-themed napkins. Here, there were no Easter decorations and a noticeable lack of fresh flowers. I absolutely do not recommend this place and will definitely not return. I am very, very disappointed.
