The National Museum Oslo Cafe is not just a place where to eat excellent food in a fancy location and with excellent service, it is a real experience. I have been there last week with a group of colleagues, we booked a couple of large tables. Being not just a restaurant, but also a Cafe, we had a very large choice in beverages. I took a local pils beer, with a very nice taste. We began our meal with a delicious appetizer: scallop served in its own shell. The decoration and presentation was just perfect. We then ordered reindeer. I must say this was the best reindeer dish I have ever eaten: tender meat, delicate taste, served on a pumpkin purea and chips. Wonderful choice. I finished my meal with a fantastic desert: mousse enriched with smashed nuts. My colleagues also ordered some red Italian wine (Frappato) they said it was just perfect with the meal. This was a great experience that I will replicate for sure when...

Don’t get me wrong, my waffle was delicious - but 129 kr for HALF a waffle is ridiculous. It says clearly on their menu it’s half a waffle, but I was still rather stunned when it came out. I understand rising food costs, but I doubt half a waffle is their biggest cost… The toppings were indeed phenomenal (but would have been better on a whole waffle) The ambience is very nice. But the service is slow - I stood waiting to be seated (as instructed by the sign) for a while, then taking my order took a while too, food came out quick though. I had to ask twice for my coffee refill. So overall food is very good but expensive for what it is (in my case half of a waffle lmao), service is slow but...

The place succeeds in what it attempts to be for a lunch or small meal place. It has a very nice atmosphere. The portions are rather small, but the quality is high. Dishes can be simple, but they are done right. They are playful in bringing forth Nordic flavors, raw ingredients and dishes. For example, ice cream with brown cheese flavor, waffles, sour cream porridge, open sandwich with fish and remoulade, etc. The only reason I subtract one star, is because the price is a bit high. It's not that I want larger portions, but a tad lower price for the comfortably small portions. If they manage to find the right balance for price, the customer will have an easier time justifying...

We had a wonderful experience at the Museum Kafé during our visit to the National Museum. The highlight was their selection of smørbrød, which was surprisingly good! Everything was fresh, and the flavours were spot on. It was clear that care went into the preparation, making the food well worth the wait, even though it took a little longer to arrive. The cosy atmosphere of the café made it a perfect spot to relax after exploring the museum. If you're planning to visit, I highly recommend booking a table in advance. It’s a popular place, and there’s often a bit of a wait to get seated. Overall, it was a great addition to our day at the museum—delicious food and a pleasant setting!
