It was Sunday 8 pm and they took us. Their menu is a book, which is very rare after COVID. There are Norwegian specialties and many Italian dishes. We got the Norwegian mussels and fries, Norwegian fish soup, Penne Al Manzo, Spaghetti Marinara, Pappardelle Al Pollo, and Risotto. The Norwegian dishes were SO good! The mussels were in tomato based sauce with a great balance of saltiness/sweetness/sourness, unlike Belgium (light butter wine) and Italian (white wine or marinara). The mussels are the larger version and plump. The fries are THE BEST I have had (but I didn't take picture of it). The fish stew is creamy but not milky or heavy. It has ample pieces of catch of the day that is cooked perfectly to the right texture and you can taste the "fresh" in the fish. The risotto is "the best I have had" per my 15-yo who has some sophisticated pallets. All pasta except spaghetti is from Italian. All three that we got had chili flakes, so there's a kick. The lady who served us and the owner who took our orders were both friendly and attentive. So service was an A. We would come back for the two Norwegian dishes alone, and my 15-yo said, there are many other dishes we haven't tried.

Update: I came back to give it another try after a response from the restaurant. Everyone has an off day and that must have been the case last time. This time the food was prepared much better. The pictures show the difference!! Great taste, evenly cooked, and great ingredients in every bite. Service was excellent too!! I can now warmly recommend! Average. Nothing bad about this place, but also nothing that stood out. For the price point, I was expecting more. The pizza was put together quite sloppy. The ingredients weren't evenly distributed and some edges were burnt or has burnt pieces from another pizza. In general the taste was alright but some bites were just a plain cheese where others were more loaded with the expected ingredients. The location is central, the atmosphere was nice, and there was a good selection of dishes to choose from. However, If you want pizza, I would go elsewhere.

I was here with my friends and we had the best time! Despite the overwhelming choices of amazing food in the menu, we bit the bullet and chose a range of pasta dishes and a classic margarita pizza. The ambiance and atmosphere of the place is stunning and magically transforms you to the bustling streets of an italian city; all while sitting in the middle of Oslo. The service was also stellar and the waiter kept us company and we shared a good laugh while eagerly waiting for our food. Alas, the stars of the show arrived, and we dug in without a moment of hesitation. Let’s just say the food was so good, that we all sat in silence while eating; and we are very talkative people. Safe to say, we were rendered speechless. Definitely recommend coming here if you’re someone who loves to be transported through food! Certainly a Sunday well spent!✨

I am giving 3 stars because of the foods and ambience but not their service level. There were one female and one male staffs. The female staff better as she took our order and served the foods to us. The male staff was at the end left us speechless. When we asked for the bill, he somehow got the female staff to do it. We were sitting near their staff counter and we saw her printing out our bill but she didnt give it to us. Another customer then asked for the bill and the male staff went to print it out and he saw our bill there and noticed that we were still waiting he just grab our bill and threw it at us and went to another table to give another bill to that customer. He then came back with credit card machine for payment and without saying anything he went to the other table for payment too. And while we were tapping our credit card to the machine, we were asked to choose which currency to pay and we chose local currency but somehow the machine didnt process and it automatically declined. All these while the male staff was never with us. So we called him again to restart his payment and he came back kinda yelling us said “What did you do?” with fierce voice and this pissed me off and I raised my voice too. Only then he noticed that i was pissed and he tried to calm down the situation by wishing us “Happy new year” with a big smile on his face but a big forced smile from him. I just wished him back as I didnt want my day to be spoiled by him. I didnt get his name but looks like he is more superior than the female staff as I saw he was giving instructions to her at some moments but she at least provided better service level than him. Our total bill is more...

Our recent visit to Riviera Restaurant in Oslo was, regrettably, a series of letdowns from start to finish. For a bill totaling €85 or 980 NOK, we expected far more than the subpar food and abysmal service we received.

The evening began with an early arrival of the strawberry mojito – so early, in fact, that it felt completely disconnected from the rest of the meal. To make matters worse, it was poorly mixed and lacked any real vibrancy.

Our single bruschetta then took an astonishing 30 minutes to arrive, only to surprise us with an unadvertised balsamic drizzle that detracted from its flavor.

The main courses, the riviera burger and tagliatelle with chicken, finally appeared a full 50 minutes after we placed our order. While the burger was passable, the pasta dish was an unmitigated disaster. Our request to substitute pappardelle with penne was completely ignored. Furthermore, the dish contained mushrooms, an ingredient not listed on the menu, which was problematic for our party. The pasta itself was severely overcooked, and the chicken was bland and tasteless, devoid of any seasoning or discernible flavor.

The service, throughout, was a significant issue. A prime example was when we requested ice for a simple Sprite; the waiter took the glass away for 4 minutes, leaving us without a drink entirely. This kind of inattentive and inefficient service permeated our entire dining experience.

Given the high price point and the multitude of issues – from the inaccurate menu descriptions and long waits to the poorly executed dishes and truly terrible service – Riviera Restaurant offers...

🍕TERRIBLE PIZZA 😔 In Oslo for a few days and drawn to to the Riviera Italian Restaurant after walking past several times and glancing up at the attractive dinning room and craving a solid Italian pizza… Greeted by a very unhappy worker who clearly didn’t want to be at work and didn’t want to be my waitress 😞 I ordered a simple margarita pizza with olives and ham, and a Manhattan cocktail 🥃

The pizza came after a long 30min wait. Dry and burnt, old (almost stale) dough. Sauce (over-salty) cheap salty olives and flavourless ham.

No cutlery … attempts to catch the eye of the unhappy workers and being super hungry, I tore the pizza into pieces and ate with no cutlery 🙄🤷‍♂️

Drink delivered by the manager after finishing (I was hungry and managed half of this pizza attempt), with an apology and “no charge due to the delay” … it didn’t look like a Manhattan😂… It wasn’t, it was a ‘Negroni’ after taking a sip… Not my thing and cheaply made (but expensive to buy), so I didn’t drink it.

Over £20 for a half edible (I ate half) pizza with grumpy service. (Minimum wage here is £15 per hour- before tips)

Asked how my experience (and food) was on the way out and gave this same honest critic to the staff on the door.

This is a location tourist ‘trap’ cashing in on its location and attractiveness of the exterior and pretty dinning rooms as you look in The worst food I’ve had in Oslo to date. Poorly trained and poorly recruited staff. Letting Oslo down, in what is usually an amazing city...
