A nice cafe, with a mix of larger and smaller tables. We stopped for lunch and I asked for fish for my wife and a casserole for myself. The last talking the order queried if I wanted the lentils or the reindeer - I confirmed the reindeer casserole (the lentils were called a stew on the menu). I then paid with a card, but at no time could see, was asked to confirm, or was given a printed copy of the order The food arrived after a while. My wife was asked if she wanted bread - on the menu it just said on the menu the fish came with bread so she was a bit taken back to be asked, but the lady serving was pleasant enough - so ok with that. I looked at my dish and was somewhat confused, but the serving lady had disappeared. I tried the meat, which tasted very much like a Turkish gyros. After a couple of forkfuls I checked the menu and realised I had been served the reindeer kebab. A quick check of the amount I had been charged and indeed I had also been charged for that. We don't like wasting food or time. We were not asked at all whether it was OK, the two staff then on duty were just chatting behind the bar. We ate what we had been given and we left. My wife's fish was nice. I was disappointed. Check carefully that you have ordered...

We visited this place in September and were super eager to write this review already then, but unfortunately forgot but here it comes and hopefully reaches the lovely blonde girl who was our waitress at the time. Our experience did not start well because we waited over an hour until asking when our food would arrive. There had been some kind of mistake and kitchen had missed our order. However our dissatisfaction soon turned into extreme joy as we were given discount after asking about our order. Even though mistake was most definately made, the aftermath could not have been better. After they spotted the mistake we were seen and treated super respectfully. The way this one person went above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction was incredible. Food was delicious as well, when it last arrived! Good lesson about how mistakes obviously happen but with right kind of approach a professional can still turn it into...

A few points which might be helpful to others: breakfast buffet is served from 8-10am pick your table before you order as they will ask where you are seated to bring your food

It’s charming indeed, a bit like walking into a cross between an antique store, a quaint English coffee shop with Scandinavia flair. The welcome when I ordered was pleasant but that stopped there. Interactions with other stuff was not particularly welcoming, and that usually makes all the difference.

I understand taste is very personal, but I found the porridge pretty bland. The grain is very good, like steel oats, but it’s made with water and comes with a bit of fruit compote and butter. Also prices - like in most of Norway - are steep.

In short, nice certainly for a little get together with a friend over coffee but based on that one experience I would not come back when I’m...

Good food, but service needs improvement. Yes, the staff are clearly stretched, but it also seems like further training in guest service would make a big difference. I arrived at 10:50am, just 10 minutes before breakfast service was due to end. It was busy, and the buffet was already almost empty, so I opted to wait for the lunch menu to begin at 11am. After waiting 10 minutes without receiving a menu, I ended up ordering directly at the till. My americano took over 5 minutes to arrive, and the salad I ordered came after another 20-minute wait. The salad was delicious — no complaints about the food at all. But overall, I was disappointed to spend over 30 minutes just waiting. As a visitor, that’s time I would have preferred to spend exploring the city.

Ok, I’m a very (too?) proud Norwegian American from Chicago. First night in Oslo was a Thursday and I was on a mission to find reindeer. A search brought me to this café serving authentic Norwegian dishes…something not a lot of restaurants do in the capital of Norway shockingly. The very kind woman working sadly delivered the news that they were sold out of the reindeer kabob but to come back tomorrow. And WOW am I glad I did. The reindeer melts in your mouth, not even a little bit gamey and the portion is large. Worth every stinkin penny. I’ll be back in Oslo for a day at the end of my trip and I just might have to come back. Go early in the day, the reindeer is sure to run out by dinner.

I ordered 2 mains. (Yes, I can eat). And that's because I was on a solo trip and I would love to try as much of the local food as possible. The fish soup was divine, much better than C*** ***n*** which was a bit salty for my taste. Quality-wise, both were good but Spor av Nord version was better for my taste. The soup was lighter. I also ordered the shrimp salad open faced sandwich. As filling as the roast beef sandwich from the other place. Both were equally high quality but my preference is for Spor av Nord. Service was friendly. Efficient. Ambiance was eccletic. Other options for the mains included a reindeer kebab. I believe the mains changes everyday. Will come back for the fish soup.
