Pepe Café — Restaurant in San Felipe

We ate at this cafe for breakfast while staying in Casco Viejo. We had the French toast, and the eggs and bread. It was wonderful, and our drinks (cold hot chocolate and cold latte with almond milk) were some of the best we’ve ever had. So good that we came back for breakfast again the next day and got the same thing, except trying the pistachio sweet croissant this time. Absolutely wonderful and better than anything we have had in the US. The staff spoke English well enough for us to understand and order without issue, which was so nice because we don’t speak any Spanish and the language barrier can sometimes be a bit challenging. In fact, they speak English well enough that we were able to chat a little bit with them about where we are from in the States. They are lovely people and we would highly recommend visiting their very nice cafe while in Casco Viejo. We will certainly be returning when we visit...

Why? Why after all the years of coming to Panama we just now tried this place?! We've walked past this place so many times but never tried. Until one day we woke up early and wanted coffee and they were the only good spot open at 7am so we finally made it. And from that day forward we spent every single morning here for the 5 days we spent in Casco. #1 the coffee is incredible! Unlike many coffee spots in Casco they open at 7am. Beyond the coffee, the food is outstanding and service is 5-star all around. Finally for the quality of food and coffee the price is just right. Seriously, if you are staying in Casco or close by you can't beat this spot. Everything is made in-house from scratch and the Focaccia is warm lightly crisp on outside with soft buttery interior. Pepe Café is a real gem. From the moment I walked in, I felt welcomed. The atmosphere is cozy, charming, and relaxing — perfect for spending a slow morning or casual gathering with friends.

We tried a few items off the menu: their coffee was rich and well-balanced; the pastries were fresh and flaky; and the breakfast dish I ordered had excellent flavor and presentation. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing.
