Restaurante El Charro Mexicano — Restaurant in San Francisco

Straight up, I seldom write reviews. That said, after my experience tonight, I feel it's warranted to save people some grief. This place is a disaster waiting to happen. Here are my 2 cents:

Pros:

Good, large margaritas Guacamole and Chips were pretty solid and seemed homemade.

Cons:

The Blandest, Sorriest Excuse for a Main Course: Being vegetarians, Mexican usually is good. However, this Veggie Burrito only consisted of shredded Iceberg lettuce and Refried Beans. NO VEGETABLES!!! I can't even imagine what the other sorry dishes were like.

Horrible, Deplorable Service - We had 3 waiters, all of which were disinterested in taking our order, asking about our meal or bringing us our check. When I approached a waiter about our veggie-less vegetarian burrito, we had basically no response. Finally, a "manager" came to speak with us and despite our valiant attempts to communicate in Spanish got nowhere. The manager proceeded to argue that we got what we ordered, etc, etc.

Look, we are staying right around the block from this place so we felt inclined to eat here but it was a waste of time and money. If it weren't for the horrendous service, I would go back in lieu of the terrible food just for a margarita. But consider yourself warned, this restaurant will not be a place where you feel like your time or money is well spent.

Go somewhere else and save...

The worst experience I’ve have ever had in a restaurant. The service was beyond bad. Reservations were made for for 1:30pm for 4 persons. After being seated we were not attended for approximately 15 minutes after which time we ordered drinks. After 20 minutes one of the four drink were brought to the table. After ten minutes I personally got up from our table to ask after about the three remaining drink orders. One more drink arrived (which was a bottle of beer) two drinks still pending. Finally after a total of approximately 45 minutes after the initial order request the remaining 2 drinks arrived. We then ordered our dinners. 45 minutes later two of the four orders came to the table. Ten minutes later the third. My companions finished their meals while I was still waiting for mine. I got up once again and asked to see the manager she went to the kitchen to see what was the problem. My order was never received. It’s now past 3:30 and no meal for me I’ve had enough I asked for the bill and we left. Like I stated from the beginning the worst experience ever. As for the food my companions were split in one not very good and the other 2 just ok. You get a complimentary tiny bowl of about 5 chips and I guess a tiny bowl of what I think was pico de gallo. After several trips to the restaurant ordering only beef fajitas I decided to try their other offerings. What a mistake, the plate that I ordered was the Mexican special which has a little bit of everything the restaurant offers the problem is everything was the same except presented differently. Hard dry pork with no flavor. The only salsa the restaurant offers is pico de gallo and chumbo of course we all know chumbo is not Mexican salsa. After living many years in Mexico it is common knowledge that when you order tacos or other Mexican plates you are presented with four to five different sauces for the food. Service was extremely slow and when we asked the waitress about the the ownership of the restaurant and the food quality she advised us that the owner vacations frequently in Mexico.
