It's unfortunate that I am leaving a review which because of this I could not give the experience a 5 stars, which it otherwise was. Let's be clear, I don't speak Spanish and he was doing his best to speak in English for me.
I ordered a drink and an entree and that's it. The waiter brought a tray of bread and two spreads, put it on the table and presented to me with exact words, "on the house". I thought it was sweet. I have also eaten at more than 10 high end restaurants in Perú during my stay where they also offered bread as a complimentary dish.
I got the check and he'd charged me for the bread. When I explained to him his error in phrasing used and not making it clear, and that where I come from (NYC) 'on the house' means complimentary, he responded with "Sorry about that. I am sure that charging for it is not a mistake."
I didn't insist, because I did already eat the bread, it was beyond delicious, and in the grand scheme $4.77 USD is not breaking the bank, so I let it go and paid it. Still feel compelled to share that I will next time make sure that if I'm offered something and didn't order it, I don't assume that it's free. And through my lesson, may it be a note to others.
The rest of what I had, Including that delicious as hell fruit bread was delectable. Ordered: Fish curry (has a spice to...
Read moreEvery 3 years or so, I make an effort to go visit friends and family in Lima. And every time I go, it’s always a culinary journey. After eating 3 times at Cosme during my last trip, I knew I wanted to try James Beckemeyer’s newest restaurant.
The atmosphere is a modern, stylish take on a New York bar. There is a light, smokey smell in the air that makes the mind wonder what indulgent flavours await. I am a huge fan of chefs who use fire and smoke to add flavour to a dish and Alado does not disappoint.
I recommend doing family style ordering because every dish is unique in its own right. Go for a wide variety of dishes and share with your companions. You’ll be surprised by what you find.
Particularly, I would draw some attention to the steak tartar and the eggplant dish. Both had my taste buds playing tricks on me and wanting more.
The cocktails were a nice touch. Trying to stick with the “smoke” theme, my wife and I ordered wonderfully balanced drinks to match. James is definitely trying to up his game with Alado and it’s a great stop during your...
Read moreAlado is probably one of the most underrated and delicious places in San Isidro. From the Chef and founder of Cosme, James Berckemeyer, Alado (actually in front of Cosme) has some outstanding options, like the crab cakes: crispy and delicious, the eggplant which is surprisingly tasty. The curry fish is delicate and savory and the shore rib is just the best we have ever tried (finished on a Josper Oven) The drinks are also superb and the Heavenly Gin is a must try Highly...
