I had a very disappointing experience at this property, and I would strongly advise other travelers to think twice before booking here.
First, the noise level was unbearable. There is a loud party held at the hostel every single night, with music blasting until very late. Even with earplugs in, it was impossible to get a good night’s sleep. This made it very difficult to rest or recharge, especially if you’re planning early morning activities.
Second, the facilities were far below acceptable standards. On the third floor, where my room was located, there was no hot water in the showers at all. This issue persisted during my entire stay, and despite reporting it, nothing was done. Additionally, there was only one shared bathroom for the entire floor. This bathroom was constantly occupied, unclean, and poorly maintained. It felt unhygienic and completely inadequate for the number of guests staying there.
I considered leaving early due to the poor conditions, but when I raised the issue with management, I was told that if I checked out, I would not receive any form of compensation or refund—even for the remaining unused nights. Unfortunately, since it was a local holiday and all nearby accommodations were fully booked, I had no choice but to stay.
The situation was handled by a staff member named Ángel Picasso, who showed no willingness to resolve the problems or offer any kind of support. I felt that my concerns were dismissed and that guest comfort was simply not a priority for this establishment.
All in all, my stay was stressful, uncomfortable, and completely unlike what I expected based on the listing. I regret booking this place and would not recommend it to anyone looking for a restful or pleasant stay. There are many other accommodations in the area that offer better conditions and more respectful service—this one is...
Read moreTravelled with my partner in the last week of June, and this was our first trip to LATAM together, as well as his first time in a hostel. Black Llama is uniquely in a tier of its own. Though I'm used to buying groceries and using a hostel kitchen in order to get by with food, and used to sleeping in shared rooms of 8+ people, this was worth the splurge on a private room. And if you're looking for a lively hostel culture where it's easy to talk to other travelers and go out for drinks, Black Llama is just the place. Plants EVERYWHERE, colorful murals, incredibly friendly staff, simple check in and check out process (no need to make deposits on keys or anything), a small terrace for the private rooms (floor to ceiling glass door and windows, which work surprisingly well to keep out the sounds of the busy streets below), and cafe-style breakfast, we both fell in love with our Limeño and Black Llama experience.
Note that the private bathrooms are not within the private rooms themselves, but they are across the hall. There is a pre-selected breakfast menu included for each traveller, plus add ONS like pancakes, bacon, etc. Laundry was an easy amenity as well. Black Llama is also an included stop in prominent tours such as PeruHop. The front desk recommended to us using Uber or InDrive to order ride shares; we liked InDrive, but try to have exact change, as it's cash only and some drivers may not carry change. For transportation to and from the airport, I recommend going on Taxidatum's website; it's a flat 18 Soles to and from Miraflores. Finally, be sure to join the community events like Trivia, Happy Hour, Flash tattoo night, and more 😉
Gracias Black Llama for the attention to detail and love you've clearly put into making this a...
