Cevichito de Pescado: fresh fish, nicely acidic lime marinade with bright red onion strips, salty seaweed and spicy peppers. The sweet potato is a nice relief when the pepper gets overly spicy while the bland choclo corn adds a welcome break to the acidity. The side of toasted cancha corn adds the final touch of crunchy texture and salty bite that balances the lime nicely.
Leche Gareca: same delicious fish as the previous dish but served in a mug topped with fried squid/calamari. The best dip for any fried seafood is leche de tigre or lime juice marinade. Only "downside" is once the fried fish is gone the ceviche is almost too acidic for some with the respite of choclo corn not available as everything is drowned in lime juice. Personally loved it. Eat lots of canchita with this one.
Choritos a la Chalaca: mussels topped with onion (a lot), pepper and coriander leaf with a touch of acidity and a lime wedge on the side to add a bit more juice, if desired. Mussels were plump and overall bite was a nice entry dish.
Not pictured but ordered and sampled from the others in my group: Taqueños de Cagrejo were crab stuffed wonton/eggroll skins. Crunchy, hot and tasty. Fettuccini de Camaron was well cooked pasta in a creamy shrimp sauce with plenty of firm shrimp tails. Both recommended if with companions or children that don't eat raw fish.
Negative: their hours don't reflect that they close daily from 4:30pm-5:30pm for maintenance and prep. I hate being that guy that comes in at closing time but unfortunately arrived at 4:25ish. The server did rush us a bit to order as the kitchen was preparing to close but provided good service throughout. The staff did not make us feel rushed to leave. I noted it to the owner or manager who was behind the bar but not sure they know they can put in a closing/break time on Google or FB.
My brother-in-law (Miraflores resident for the past 20 years) orders from this cevichería on UberEats since they opened last year in Miraflores. Prices in the restaurant and online are comparable. He told me I needed to try it the next time I was in town. He noted that he preferred it delivery as the ceviche "cooks" a bit with the lime juice by the time it makes it from the restaurant to his home. I prefer it as I had it at the restaurant, recently tossed in lime juice and damn-near-wriggling raw.
It is difficult to say that this ceviche is better than other cevicherías in Lima I've had as ceviche is such a simple dish. If you have fresh fish, well executed marinade and sides, you have a winning formula. If you are in the area or are just at an overall loss as to where to start, looking at it for delivery to your hotel or to take your family to dine out, this is certainly a great option that won't disappoint. Prices are reasonable for Miraflores as the area is safe...
Read moreI went here based on the reviews and also because I wanted to experience the Ceviche for the first time. I ordered the Scallops followed by a Trio of Ceviche. Scallops, served in the shell were OK. But just ok. More seasoning would have improved the flavour. The Ceviche was a big disappointment.....2 of the 3 sauces that came with the ceviche were excessively spicy. I couldn't finish them which is surprising as I can take the hottest of Indian curries. The sauces were too overpowering and dominated the flavour. The fish I did taste on the non spicy dish also needed seasoned in my opinion. The prices were reasonable but food flavours a big disappointment to me so I...
Read moreGood - Ceviche was so good. Lemony, onions, Delicious. 22 soles, not too expensive. I also ordered some paps fritas, they’re 20 times better than La Lucha (that places fries are gross). The sweet potato was great as well, really good to dip it in the extra lemon juice. I liked dipping the fries in it as well. I’ll be back. Bad - they put some really salty corn snacks on the table, I love corn snacks in almost every form, but it seems like they salt them extra so you get a drink or something. I also didn’t like the corn (or whatever it is) on the plate that much, I only ate a few pieces of it. Ugly - nothing. This place is...
