I visited Chicho tonight and paid 239 S/. for a three-course meal (plus a 23 S/. tip). The menu shows real ambition—tuna-foie combination, fresh pescado del día, and a well executed flan—but my experience was undermined by two issues. First, as my tuna-foie dish was served, two very small flies visibly emerged from the plate just before the waiter torched it tableside; the server himself later acknowledged seeing one settle on the wall during my dessert. Second, my table sat beside an open door in freezing air, and despite a light jacket I found myself shivering through the final course.
I do not doubt the kitchen’s technical skill or the restaurant’s intention; flavors were balanced and presentations were confident. However, visible signs of contamination and an unaddressed thermal discomfort are failures of basic hygiene and guest care. I notified staff discreetly—there was no apology or remedial offer—and ultimately paid in full with a modest tip. As a result, what should have been a memorable meal felt like a test of endurance rather than...
Read moreThis review has 2 different perspectives, as fair as I can be: From a Peruvian (local) perspective: this place is way too overpriced and what they offer is tasty but you can get even better flavor in other cheaper places. The Lomo Saltado was delicious but you can get the same quantity and better taste in other restaurants as nice as this one for cheaper. The Arroz con Pollo was ok, tho I didn’t expect that the meat was mixed with the rice, this is really unusual for this dish. It came with the tiniest salsa a la Huancaina, which again this is unusual. I order a nonalcoholic drink and it was 25 soles which is around $8 and this is too expensive. From a tourist/gringo/foreign perspective: If you have never tried Peruvian food, then this is the wrong place to start. Tho the Lomo Saltado was tasty (good quality of sirloin) and the presentation of the plates is regular. Overall, the flavors of the dishes were good (nothing outstanding) the quantity and presentation quite disappointment...
