Our taxi driver recommended this location so we gave it a shot. The service was terrible (as appears to be the norm in Lima). There doesn’t appear to be a way to flag someone down working behind the pastry counter—employees were in constant motion, not stopping to greet anyone or provide service to place orders. We waited upwards of 10 mins and no one working behind that counter stopped to take an order. We’re saying excuse me (in Spanish), not sure if they couldn’t hear or just too busy but no one stopped. So, I had to take the initiative. I found a cluster of employees behind another section of the counter preparing boxes. I had one of them, grab my order and explained that no one from the pastry section was acknowledging the growing group of waiting patrons.
The ‘to-go’ ordering system is incredibly inefficient. After waiting all that time to find someone, you place your order at the counter, they give you a receipt, you take the receipt to a cash register in the front of the restaurant, pay, then take a different receipt back to the counter where you ordered and then they give you your order. WHY?! Why not just pay at the register where I first placed my order?!!
The two ladies working the register where you pay were extremely rude. No greeting. No smile. Literally didn’t speak a word. Scanned the receipt and asked for payment.
The gentleman working the gelato counter was very friendly, offered us samples and gave really good...
Read moreUpdate, 2/2024. We have been coming here for years. Each time we visit Peru, we always stop in at San Antonio because my mom loves the empanadas. I have yet to find a dish that I like, so I usually order eggs. I decided to try the eggs and waffles combination. The eggs were fine, but the waffles were cold and soggy. The waiter offered to reheat them for me, but I decided to try pancakes instead. I was told that the pancakes are heated in the same oven. Apparently, the only things cooked fresh are the eggs. Everything else on the menu is pre-made and heated in an oven. I guess I will continue ordering my eggs as my mother enjoys her empanadas. Light and airy atmosphere, nice al fresco dining area, extensive menu. Service could be improved. I noticed that several tables had trouble getting their server's attention when trying to pay. They do not serve coffee, espresso only. They serve a side of hot water. You also have to ask...
Read moreIn Peru on an excursion trip with my daughter. An afternoon free so we walked around a bit and decided to stop here for lunch. Although they were busy, we were seated right away.
After perusing the large menu, my daughter decided on an egg sandwich with lettuce, tomato on a nice sesame bun. I discovered their Tamal and went for the Chicken Tamal.
After awhile our food came. My daughter really enjoyed her sandwich. But when I ate a half of the Tamal, I found no Chicken! So I motioned for the waiter and told him. He replied by showing me a lump on the second half of the Tamal that turned out to be a small chunk of chicken! lol! Tasty but disappointing.
They have a HUGE variety of pastries, pies, cakes, and even gelato. But we weren’t...
