Tanuki — Restaurant in Lima Metropolitan Area

I went to this place over 3 years ago several times during the pandemic and years before and it was under different ownership and actually I preferred it more then. It's a personal preference I suppose I just like the layout more before. The sashimi for example, if you order two different kinds like I did (tuna and salmon) they came on the same board here separately like two different entrees and the pieces are much bigger they could be cut either for the individual or to share. Send many use chopsticks you need to order a knife to cut it. The raw fish came with one that was not real cold and the other one came out like it just been frozen. The inconsistencies were a turn-off for me.

Now the positives I ordered one of the few higher protein. Low carbohydrate dishes without added sugar with mixed vegetables and pieces of white fish cut into it. I recalled something very similar under the prior owners and I really liked it! It was an ample portion and I ended up taking half of it home which I enjoyed that evening. Service was friendly but the soy sauce was forgotten and there never seems to be enough napkins...

This is about food court quality Japanese food with a hefty price tag. It’s not bad. But I wouldn’t say it’s good. And here’s why:

-ordered some pieces of sushi and the rice was EXTREMELY Sweet. Sushi rice shouldn’t taste like a candy bar -ordered pork Katsu: the breading was completely separated from the pork and falling off. Not in a good way. It also came out lukewarm. -fried rice was subpar and missing flavor. -udon soup was flavorful, but the noodles itself were soggy. Udon is supposed to be chewy and springy.

It’s ok, but after a week of Peruvian food, and a hankering for Japanese food, this place did NOT hit the spot.

Perfect spot to fullfill your ramen cravings in miraflores, without having to go to far out and for a decent price! The girlfriend got 12 pieces of vegetarian sushi and I got a bowl of ramen.
