Let’s start with some truth before I get into this review, I don’t generally like Italian food and certainly wouldn’t typically pursue Italian food when I’m in a gastronomic epicenter like Peru, so I’ll try to be as unbiased as I can (but feel I should state the above up front). I was meeting up with some local coworkers for dinner and of course they eat Peruvian food everyday, so going out means getting something different, in this case Italian - so now you know why i went.
The restaurant was beautiful, situated in Larcomar shopping center in beautiful Miraflores over looking the Pacific Ocean. The restaurant and wait staff were wonderful and attentive. The food was fine, I ordered a fish dish in a red sauce and my daughter had the Pulpo allá Grigalia (my daughter is a bit of Pulpo connoisseur). The fish was okay, not bad, but not memorable - in fact, as I started writing this review I had to ask my 6 year old if she remember what I ordered. Her Pulpo was a little over cooked and chewy - pulpo is one of those things that is either perfect or bust, unfortunately this was bust. Look, if you’re looking for Italian in Peru to entertain a group, this place will do the trick. But honestly, stick with Peruvian while you’re here, there are 6 unique Peruvian styles that should keep your stomach plenty busy: Peruvian Criolla, Seafood (cebicherias), fusions (Nikkei, Chifa), to name a few of...
Read moreTrattoria Mambrino is a hidden gem in Miraflores, Peru. The restaurant is small and intimate, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu features classic Italian dishes, made with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
We started our meal with the antipasto with prawns. The prawns were perfectly cooked. For our main course, we enjoyed the veal lasagna. The lasagna was rich and flavorful, with perfectly cooked pasta.
To pair with our meal, we ordered a negroni. The negroni was a classic aperitif to enjoy before dinner. It was perfectly balanced and refreshing. The waiter also picked out a nice red wine to pair with the lasagna. The wine was full-bodied and fruity, and it complemented the lasagna perfectly.
Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Trattoria Mambrino. The food was excellent, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was romantic. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a delicious and authentic Italian meal in...
Read moreThe food here is ok. I had the fish of the day with grilled vegetables, not much flavor but not greasy and not overcooked so that was good. The atmosphere is nice. I am giving it one star because they brought me 2 peices of bread, one in each basket, which were like tortillas that appeared to be just some regular tortilla from a package heated up in a pan, and charged 18 soles per peice of "bread" which is about $4.60. So that to me was enough to give them one star.
So that was my original review in which I gave them one star. However, I returned last week with a business client who picked this spot. This time I had the glazed salmon and raviolis of love, and it was very good. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the raviolis were excellent. We both ordered one of the alcoholic spritzers and it they are delicious and refreshing, perfectly balanced. We did not get any bread this time and I still don't recommend the bread. So I am editing my review from 1...
