After a quick tryst with NBI (for my clearance), I craved for some Spam for breakfast. I thought Burger King would be the best place for it, but decided to try out this place instead because I saw Spam in their menu.
Service was friendly and fast. I ordered Spam with garlic rice and an egg and topped up P25 pesos for a coffee. My dish was delivered in less than 10 minutes!
So, for the price of P195 I get 3 chunky slices of Spam, an egg, garlic rice, and a cup of coffee - that is way better than Burger King's spam meal consisting of 2 slices of Spam and a paltry serving of white rice, egg and coffee for P200!!
Although, admittedly, I would've preferred BK's way of cooking the eggs unlike here which is kinda sad. The garlic rice is more, but, the rice quality is poorer than BK's and I don't taste any garlic. Coffee is always better at BK's. But a slice of tomato and cucumber has been a great plus here.
I got fuller here than I had at BK's for the similar meal. So you could say this place provided better value due to portions. Plus, you get to chill to classic hits of the 50's/60's if you are into it.
But, as for the food - even if I only ordered Spam specifically, the other elements dissuade me from coming back. I sat at a table directly beside a family of four and they didn't seem too happy with what they ordered as well. And their dishes looked unappetizing for me.
Anyway, that's what diners in the US are for - they're just there to fill you up as cheaply like fastfood without being...
Read moreWe chose to have our final dinner here and even though we left satisfied — because they serve in big portions at such affordable price — the fried chicken that came with our orders leaves a lot to be desired. (I forgot the combo names tho.)
For one, the meat texture is dry. (Dry like, uhm, you know how the chicken meat tastes when you boil it for a few minutes and took it out too early? Yeah, like that.) Two, something about it made us lose our appetite and not finish it all the way. (Not the taste, tho. It tastes fine. It's just.. uh, nakakaumay? We ate everything in our plate, but we just can't stand the chicken.)
Other than that, to eat here is super worth it. The staff are very polite and serves fast. (Especially the old man who helps out in serving food and taking orders. He seems to be the quickest to know if a customer needs assistance. Whether he is one of the owners or just their oldest employee, I have no idea lol.)
And their drinks tastes great! I got the Pineapple Shake (w/ milk) and I am staring at it for a couple of minutes wondering whether I got what I ordered or had gotten a buko shake instead. Idk but I loved it! My companions got the Mango Shakes and...
Read moreWe're visitors from Manila and we had just completed an exciting Trail Run at Mt. Bidawan, Itogon and we were really hungry! All we could talk about on our way to 50s Diner was feasting on an awesome late lunch. The line was short so were lucky to be seated immediately. Can't remember the names of what we ordered but 1 friend ordered a 3-pc fried chicken meal, another ordered grilled porkchops meal, while i got the shrimp & beef ribs ata. Sadly, it was that disappointing i can't even remember the meal. Serving size and presentation was nothing like the one in the picture. Which explains why i did not bother to take instagrammable food pics. To make the long story short, i wasn't satisfied and had to look for something to eat elsewhere. The unisex entry to the comfort room wasn't exactly very welcoming either. Imagine trying to brush your hair and the unexpected view from the mirror is a half-open men's cubicle door with someone inside. I also found it unhygienic that the common cr hallway, wet floor & all, also served as a stockroom for produce... Won't be going back there on my next visit. Sorry but this review had to be done....
