Went there today. Pork good, beef is like 3mm thick with well done only. If there was an award for worst service in Baguio, these guys are champions.. Never going there again. The only thank you and please were from the security guard... I think in the food industry, service is king. Quick to clean the tables, that's great but no smiles. I smiled when I order my food but the look on not only my server's face was like 'a person who really didn't care about anything' like a yeah yeaj good foe you face. Usually orders are confirmed as you order or there is some basic interaction. He was as silent as a ninja. He took my order turned his back and walked away. Food came, hot fresh and tasted awesome (porkchops and pork bbq, 3mm steak is not steak in my opinion). It came relatively quick 5 mins. 40 mins later, another server came and gave me the bill. I told him I wanted to order the sans rival (their signature dessert). He told me it was too late. I asked politely with a smile if he could please ask to see if I could get one slice, which was one of the reasons why I went there. He just said no. Can't. I was going to just pay and leave but I wanted to know why no one came to tell me of last orders. He looked elsewhere and said nothing, finding some interesting scenery on the wall... No one came to see how my meal was during my 40 mins there. No one informed me when last orders were. So he pointed to the cashier and said... Ask her.
I greeted her, no greeting back. I felt a bit awkward but I asked her if I could just get the cake to go if they're closing. There were still 20+ customers there. She said nope no cake. Unless you buy the whole cake. So, basically I can get a whole cake but not a slice...
No sorries no thank yous no smiles. Just a place full of people who seem to hate their jobs. I felt ignored, undervalued and that smiling takes too much effort since it uses too many muscles. One word answers.
Bad service really killed the experience, the pork is the only meat that is decent. It's my second time there, I should've learned feom my first experience there with bad service and terrible steak.
Service needs attention from the management, cashier to waiting staff. Actually the security guard gave the best service... The...
Read moreLots to unpack, here. First impressions will be bad. It's not a clean place, and the "sizzling plate" by it's very nature turns into "the greased floor." Watch your step on the tile as you enter. In general the ambiance is like a lumberjack high-school cafeteria. (But you're not here for that.)
The pricing seems very good, though we opted for the cheaper stuff on the menu (Grilled Pork Chop and Boneless Grilled Chicken Steak.) Things come in good portions with more rice and likely gravy than you will eat. I was told the thing to do is pour the gravy onto the cast iron "plate" when it first comes out, so it can boil away into magical crunchy saucy bits. It does just that, and is quite good.
Both entrees were good, served with a little bit of potatoes and green beans (these things came from a garden nearby, I have to imagine.)
The food was well-prepared, not overcooked, and on the whole might have been even healthy without the gravy-town extravaganza. At the price I'd go and maybe skip the gravy to get a grilled chicken hunk.
One star docked for cleanliness and ambiance. The place reads like a cafeteria that's been running 20 days without mopping, essentially. But we don't go to fast food places for their floors.
Second star docked for the soup... this review might have been higher without any... but each entree came with soup, and it was the saddest, most watery soup you've ever seen. It tasted OK, but in the way of "Does this water taste OK?" and not, "Is this a good soup?"
EDIT: Had a cheeseburger delivered from here. It was quite good and fine, but note that when you ask for a cheeseburger "with everything", you will get cheese, cucumber, and tomato. If you want ketchup, mayo, mustard, onions, etc. you'd better have 'em in the fridge. Still a good, cheap cheeseburger that isn't altering my rating on the place. I'd...
Read moreGrowing up in Baguio meant graduation celebrations or family dinners being held here in Sizzling Plate. I would say that it has become one of our safe choicest when it comes to dining. It will also be one of the first restaurants you'd think of if you are deciding where to eat.
Food is alright. I would say not really the best steaks in Baguio (maybe before with lesser competition) but you'd get your money's worth. It might not really cause that foodgasm experience but it will fill the tummy.
2/3 stars is solely for the Sans Rival which is a family favorite. This is yumminess!
Recommendations: Better ventilation at the Session Road branch especially peak hours. It tends to get very crowdy and super hot. Also, I've seen the waiters there for so long (makes me feel old too) and some needs to take attention to the orders. It would be nice to know right away if your order is available or not instead of having your orders taken already then after a few minutes, they will advise that it is not. Talk about getting excited then downright...
