Tldr - first time we have to leave a restaurant without eating there… and we’ve been to thousands until now. Fake positive reviews probably as they offer discount. To be avoided!
Detailed experience:
We arrived for lunch and proceeded with the order immediately. Out of the 3 items we ordered, 2 were not available, one being 500 ml bottled still water… we ordered again a new dish (snapper) which was confirmed at the moment of ordering by the waitress. After 2 minutes, she came back and reconfirmed the order.
Context: there were only three other tables occupied in the restaurant, with two having received their meals when we were ordering ours. There were at least 3 waiters and at least 4 people in the kitchen.
Next 30-40 minutes nothing happened, apart from waiters being confused with other people orders/checks. One waiter ran 3 times outside the restaurant to bring different items to the bar/kitchen. After the long wait, another waiter came and asked us if it’s ok to wait for another 15 minutes…we said ok, as we had waited already so long and we also had our 1yo hungry baby with us.
After the said additional 15 minutes, our order came… shrimps instead of the snapper. At that moment, we paid for our drinks and left to another restaurant.
Overwhelmed waiters even in chill periods, no smiles/friendly atmosphere, a lot of items on the menu missing… the only explanation why this restaurant has so high ratings is that they offer 5% discount and a free desert (written on the menu) for a (positive, i...
Read moreAs a local, I have to say that this is one of the best Modern Classic Filipino restaurant in El Nido.
If you're looking for a place to showcase Filipino food to your friends for the first time in El Nido, this place has the perfect representation of the modern-classic Filipino cuisine. I'd recommend this place to experience Filipino family gathering that revolves around great selection of food.
The menu is fairly priced for its quality and serving portion. Note that El Nido has a lot of expensive restaurants that doesn't really translate to great dining experience. It has a wide selection of the filipino traditionals from your classic filipino gathering dishes to the modern iterations. Definitely go for their Kare-kare, Sweet and Sour Lapu-lapu, and Lechon Kawali. Their Kare-kare is not exactly prepared traditionally, but it'll give most restaurant kare-kare a run for its money!
The location is very accessible. Nanay's El Nido is inside Pops District which has lots of parking space for motorcycles and cars that is absolutely rare in El Nido. Lots of other restaurant and dessert shops within the district. It's also a good sunset spot and has access to the Corong-corong Beach. Though small, the restaurant's theme is Filipino classic resto that's nothing else special to...
Read moreNanay's is hands down the best Filipino restaurant in El Nido. From the warm and friendly atmosphere to the delicious food, this place has it all. The moment you step inside, you are greeted with a smile and a feeling of home.
But let's talk about the food - it is absolutely amazing! One of the standout dishes is the Tapsilog. For those who may not be familiar, Tapsilog is a popular Filipino breakfast dish consisting of thinly sliced beef, garlic fried rice, and a fried egg. Nanay's version of this dish is a true masterpiece. The beef is tender and flavorful, with just the right amount of seasoning. The garlic fried rice is perfectly cooked and adds a nice crunch to the dish. And the fried egg on top ties everything together, making for a truly satisfying meal.
But that's not all - Nanay's El Nido has an extensive menu of other Filipino favorites that are sure to please any palate. Whether you're in the mood for adobo, sinigang, or curry, this restaurant has it all. And don't forget to save room for dessert!
Overall, I cannot recommend Nanay's El Nido enough. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting. If you're looking for authentic Filipino cuisine in El Nido, look no further...
