Readers Digest Version: Overall Mahogany was a decent stay but they could make a few slight improvements that would have increased the enjoyment of our trip significantly and left them with a 5 star rating. +put a safe in the room +install more reliable locks on the sliding doors
Detailed version:
The positive The resort is extremely peaceful and the staff are friendly, prompt and helpful. The bed is comfortable, a rainfall shower with hot water and decent pressure. The patio is quite large and all around comfortable. Town is about a 25 minute walk or a 100php tricycle ride. The resort quoted us 50php but only one tricycle driver of the entire week charged us that amount. Maybe we should have haggled more the first time but that is a skill set we have yet to perfect. The bottle of service water is a huge plus and the fact we could ask to have it refilled many times a day was perk all In its own. There is a Kettle in the room which is great for boiling tap water to make coffee. Lift the lid on the Kettle to keep it boiling for a 1 full minute to ensure it is safe to drink.
The mediocre The breakfast menu is small. If staying only a few days, this may not be an issue but if staying longer, it may grow old. I was surprised that fresh fruit wasn't on the menu and you had to ask for it and while it was available, the charge was 250php for 1 plate of mango (which was 1mango). We learnt about half way through the week that fresh fruit only came with the plain omelette.
The less than positive We had booked this resort for 7 days in June of 2022. The room did not have an in-room safe which wouldn't have been as big of a concern if the lock on the door was reliable. However, it was unreliable at best and could easily be opened from the locked position without a key. This left us quite concerned about our items, especially our passports. While nothing went missing, a better door lock and an In room safe would have improved our experience and increased their overall rating.
The pool was clean on day one but by day 6 it was cloudy and turning green. I'm no pool guru but I'd put my money on it and say I think the pool needs to be...

Read moreThe Mahogany hotel is a beautiful beach front resort. It's a small intimate resort with only about 8 rooms. The room at spacious, simple and very nice. Each room has a cute little porch area to just sit out and enjoy the views. But just be careful of the insects. Sitting out for about 5 mins my sister and I got attacked by insects and bitten all over the the bottom of our legs. Bug spray is a must!
The lay out of the room is open.... meaning there is no private restroom area. There is a wall but no door. The bed comes with only a sheet.... no comforter. So at night I did get cold with the AC. Also there are no TVs.... which is fine. I mean you don't go on vacation to stay indoors watching TV but just know that the rooms don't even offer them.
The rooms each come with a mini frig but nothing is complimentary. They do offer complimentary breakfast in the morning which you can have delivered to your room or set out on the gazebo area. My sister got the fruit salad which was a nice little bowl of banana, watermelon, mango, pineapple and apples. It was actually quite nice. I got the continental breakfast which was an assortment of posing toasted bread, a side of fruit (banana, watermelon slice and 2 orange twist) jam and butter. Not bad.... they actually give you a lot of bread. Our friends each got the American breakfast which contained 2 eggs, side of toast and meat (epithet bacon or ham) it looked perfectly fine and yummy. The portion was an adequate size.
The staff was friendly and helpful. You can even request to get a massage in your room.
The hotel is located about a mile from the main town. So taking a "taxi "is recommended.
If I ever come back to the Philippines I would definitely return...
