Two things come to mind when I think of my past Kermit experiences (Manila and Siargao locations): amazing pizza and customer service. However, in La Union everything is different.
They used a tiny gas single pizza oven. Not wood burning and it’s the kind of oven that I can get back home at hardware store for my backyard. Right off the cuff, there were red flags.
Similar to another reviewer, our crust was too thin to hold the ingredients and fell apart. Partly too thin and partly too undercooked due to the residential-grade oven.
We also had a mixed salad which was labeled as having a mango vinaigrette yet we couldn’t really get any mango flavour and overall was quite bland. Though the veggies were fresh and crisp so it wasn’t all that bad.
The Aperol Spritz was true to its recipe. Refreshing!
The service is order at the counter but they do take care of the rest (delivering your food to your table and clearing your table afterwards) which is strange that I even have to say this but other spots in San Juan are fully self service and that’s a real shame.
The vibe is cool. Not Siargao, but still decent. It’s on the second floor of a complex with a balcony that faces the beach/sunset.
The staff, like so many other places in The Philippines, are absolutely wonderful.
NOTE: the pizza in the photo is intentionally without cheese on most of it due to a...
Read moreWriting a review after a long break due to COVID. We were on a weekend getaway in Aureo La Union and decided to have lunch at Kermit. I called ahead to make reservations. Although Google Maps takes you to the right place, finding parking was a challenge. Best to take a trike from where you stay. After struggling a bit, I found a place to park and walked to the complex where Kermit is located on the first floor. After QR scanning and registering, we went up to Kermit and were seated quickly. Ambiance is an open concept setting and is cozy. It's a self-service place, so once you decide , you place the order and counter and pay cash. Yes, they don't accept card payment, but they do accept gcash. Once paid, you get a buzzer which, when activated, you can go pick up food. We ordered the shrimp gambas for starters, Herb crusted mahi mahi with cous cous, Linguine alla Antonio, and a pizza Margherita. I liked the mahi so much that I literally scraped the plate to the last bits. Pizza was rustic and simple, so 5 stars for that. The portion size was good, and the price was lower than we expected. We could not finish the pasta and gambas, so I packed it. Place also has great cocktail selection; sadly, I was driving, so I did not get one. Must remember to take a trike the next time I go there! Overall, ...
Read moreMy family and I ordered pizzas and their cucumber basil lemonade. Pizzas were good, they were flavorful but overpriced. The drink was okay, I was expecting a hint of basil but the basil leaves were just there for garnish. I had to muddle it using my straw for the flavor to come out.
We didn’t like the service. The cashier was a woman who instead of greeting us with “Welcome to Kermit”, said in an unwelcoming tone and expression “No outside food allowed and we only accept cash.” We didn’t even say anything nor were we holding any food/drink. Plus, she kept retouching her makeup while we were eating, it was an unpleasant sight. Maybe if the cashier didn’t greet us with such hostility, we would’ve ordered more.
Music played was too loud. It makes you want to eat real quick and leave.
To be honest, we don’t mind the (over)price. But if you price your products on the higher scale, it’s not just the quality of food or the aesthetic of the place that we pay for, it’s also...
