The best fried chicken in Elyu?
Our friend recommended we try the viral Sabong Fried Chicken in Elyu, known for its rave reviews on TikTok.
The dining area is relatively small, and there’s often a long line when we pass by. The staff at the counter were accommodating and easy to talk to, which made ordering smoother.

What We Ordered We tried their popular chicken rice meal mains, priced at PHP 300 per meal:
Honey Bagoong
Comes with kare-kare sauce and eggplant salsa. The salty-sweet flavor was noticeable, but it became overwhelming after eating more chicken. Korean Soy
Served with a side of corn. The soy flavor was too salty for my friend, even when paired with rice. Szechuan Style Fried Chicken
Accompanied by cucumber and carrots as a side dish. This had a tangy flavor, but my friend didn’t enjoy it much and left it unfinished. Each meal comes with three pieces of chicken, making the serving size filling. However, the flavors can be too intense, especially if you’re eating alone. Sharing a meal with an extra serving of rice might help balance the strong flavors.
Our Takeaway Experience Since we opted for takeout, they added PHP 20 per meal for packaging. The food was well-packed, and the plating for dine-in meals looked neat.
Quick Notes We didn’t get a receipt this time, but our total for five meals, including takeout fees, came to around PHP 1,600.
While the serving size is generous, the flavors were quite overpowering compared to the hype on social media. It might be worth trying if you’re curious, but our experience fell short of the...
Read moreAfter an afternoon swim, we ventured to SabongFried Chicken, a spot Gela recommended and enjoyed previously. Tucked inside The Great Northwest Philippine Travel Stop and Viewing Deck, alongside various other eateries.
We ordered the following:
Elyu Original (₱300) This came with three pieces of fried chicken, crispy, juicy, and cooked just right, in my opinion. However, the ketchup didn't quite hit the mark for me, leaning a bit too much on the sour side. It did marginally better with the fries.
Honey Bagoong (₱300) / While the honey flavor was somewhat elusive, the chicken remained juicy despite its drenching in sauce. The subtle kare-kare sauce provided a nice touch, especially when paired with the original fried chicken. However, the bagoong sauce proved overpowering, saturating everything, from rice to fries.
Handcut Fries (₱100) For those craving more fries, this is a wise choice. The skin-on fries were crispy on the outside and soft within, a delightful addition to the meal.
SabongFried Chicken offers a decent fried chicken experience. However, it's worth noting that the location lacks adequate ventilation despite the presence of fans. Nonetheless, the restaurant boasts two floors, providing additional seating options if the ground floor is full. Also, there's no signal within the travel stop, but its proximity to the beach adds to its charm. The restaurant cleverly divides its space into two sections: Red for bone-in fried chicken and Blue for boneless...
