I recently dined at Papa Bear and Friends. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The food, while decent, was significantly overpriced for the quality. I ordered the beef krapow and monggo w/ bagnet but none of the dishes were particularly memorable. The krapow tasted heavily of beef bouillon cubes, overshadowing any other flavors. The monggo was your standard ginisang monggo, nothing special.
To add to the disappointment, the service was underwhelming. The staff were not particularly friendly, and the restaurant was uncomfortably hot despite being the only customer. When I requested to turn on the fan, I was told it was broken.

Read moreThey narrowed down the flavour profiles right. It really does feel like I'm eating Malaysian and Thai food. However the depth of flavour was not there. To make matters worse I can taste hints of Filipino cooking in the dishes.
Papa Bear is a compromise between popular Southeast Asian food and Filipino adjustments. Perhaps done to appease the general population.
It won't hit the spot if you want authentic Peranakan or Thai cuisine. But it won't let you down. Given the availability of these cuisines in the country, this is still a place worth going if you want...
