El Chapo's La Union — Restaurant in Luzon

El Chapo's got us curious when we were walking in San Juan to our accommodation because it's filled with foreign nationals.

When we visited, we noticed that they have limited items on the menu and only offer horchata and dirty horchata for drinks. We ordered horchata and it tasted great given its price of only 150. The size of the drink is huge, too.

On our second visit, we ordered food: soft tacos, elote, and naked burrito, plus horchata, of course (we wanted to try El Union's horchata but its price of 200+ doesn't compare with El Chapo's).

The soft tacos were great, especially with their sauces. I didn't feel like eating that night but eating one soft taco felt like it's the right choice of food for the night. My taste buds needed to adjust to appreciate the taste of elote because it's not the typical corn prep we do in the country. It's full of flavor and I ended up liking it on the last bite. The burrito was okay, and tasted better with their sauces.

I recommend El Chapo's for a quick bite and even for your meals in San Juan, La Union.

El Chapo’s is always a solid spot in San Juan, and this time we got the burrito bowl, the fried taco sampler, and of course, the dirty horchata.

Burrito Bowl – The flavors were good, but the rice-to-toppings ratio was a bit off. There was way too much rice and not enough chicken, so it felt a little unbalanced.

Fried Taco Sampler – We always get these because they never miss. The cheese is melted perfectly, the tacos have that nice crunch, and their spicy sauce ties everything together. We got chicken, pork, and beef—each one was solid.

Dirty Horchata – Always a go-to. Sweet, creamy, and just hits the spot every time.

Ambiance & Location – It’s an open-air spot right by the road, so the seats can get a little dusty, but nothing a quick wipe won’t fix. They expanded recently, and the new setup looks great—definitely fits their vibe.

Service – The staff is super friendly, but since they’re busy in the kitchen, they don’t always get to clean the tables right away. A CLAYGO setup might help, but overall, they’re really nice and accommodating.

Always worth stopping by, especially for the tacos...
